Choosing Her Crush

Evenings on HVFH are reserved for thing that keep us ‘sane’.  We post stuff like movie reviews, projects to keep kids busy, tips to keep things running smoothly in your life, book club, even drink recipes.

This topic has me going a little insane.  But finding out what you think may help.  Getting answers to the questions in my head always helps.

My daughter has her first official crush.  But its not just that…

She’s only three.

Is that too early?

Should I be worried?

I remember having a crush on a boy in kindergarten.  I’m fairly sure I giggled a lot when he was around and hoped he’d pick me for a kick-ball partner the next recess.  It was harmless.  But girls who had hard crushes seemed to be super boy crazy as they got in to their teen years.  That’s what has me worried.

My baby girl for sure blushes when this little tot is around.  She told her daddy she ‘loves him’.  And she woke up from a nightmare the other night saying she didn’t want this boy to leave.  Oh dear.  We could be in for a long boy-crazy road with this one.

But her crush has me thinking.

Should I have a crush?

I was at a party with some women this week talking about my boy crazy baby.  We got to talking about our own crushes.

One of my friends loves Bon Jovi.

Another loves Rod Stewart.

How about Edward from Twilight?

Then there’s the cute doctor, a neighbor, even a friend’s husband.

Well, I don’t have a crush.  Is that weird?  Should I?  Do you?

I remember crushes.  It is fun to have a tickle in your tummy.  I guess I’ve just never thought of it since being married.  I’ve never been a big fan of ‘famous’ people.  My crushes are based a bit more on personality.

So, how do I go about finding a crush?

For nearly 15 years Jennifer spent her time clawing her way up the chain as a television producer and newsroom manager. She's helped create and produce newscasts and talkshows. Just as she was realizing some of her professional goals, she decided to give it all up for a family. Although Jennifer has lived in Miami and L.A., she has always called Nebraska home. She always knew she wanted to raise her children in the Midwest.
Jennifer is now trying to find her way in a new world. She may be frenzied and frazzled sometimes, but she would not give up being a mom to her almost four year old and her almost two year old for anything.

My five year old has had a crush for two years on one of his preschool friends. He talks about her all the time, and on their recent field trip to the pumpkin patch, they held hands the whole time. Yesterday he said he was going to marry her because he is “so crushed.” It’s cute now, but aye, yi, yi, when he gets older if he is this girl crazy I’m not sure what I’ll do!

P.S. My crush is George Clooney. *sigh* He just gets better with age.

What is in our food or on our TVs these days? 3 seems SO YOUNG to have a crush!!
We don’t talk about ‘boyfriends’ or holding hands or promote this kind of thing at all. Yet, I can tell that this boy is different to her than any of her other friends. She has several friends who are boys. But this boy just is different. It makes me uncomfortable. I’m a little glad that your son has a crush, too.

I kept trying to deny it, but have come to the realization I definitely have a crush on Ryan Gosling!
