Geocaching: Her Family’s Weekend Treasure Hunt
07 Sep, 2012
I loved scavenger hunts as a kid. My favorites were at birthday parties. We would arrive and exchange our gifts for a paragraph of clues about the objects we needed to find. And even though I’m in my 30′s, I still love solving the mystery or recovering another clue.

This is what you may find inside a container. Depending on the clues given. This box is courtesy of stpfriends.org
If you love a good hunt, don’t mind hiking all over Nebraska and know how to use GPS, chances are you will love GEO CACHING!
What is Geo Caching
Its known at a GPS stash hunt which involves finding hidden items. These hidden items are stashed in locations that can be found with a Global Positioning Satellite. And if you have an Iphone, there is an app for it
And yes Android does it too!
There is also Virtual Caching: Virtual Caching involves locating not a cache, but a specific landmark, feature, park sign, etc. State parks of Nebraska have some rules and regulations to be observed and you can find out more about it here, but for the most part; its a fun way to pass time with your family while enjoying the great outdoors.
Where is the next big Geo Cache?
Sept 30th in Norfolk. After a big breakfast, the hunt is on. Visit this cache event at Northeast Nebraska Geocachers.

My Must Have is SPRING....All Things Spring

This topic was actually in my idea list for a future blog. We found geocache while hiking in Hawaii this Summer and my kids stumbled upon one just down the street from our house. I think going on a geocache hunt would make a fun family activity. It was on our Summer to do list but never got accomplished. What a great way for your kids to learn about coordinates. Maybe if I had done this as a kid I wouldn’t still be using “Never Eat Soggy Waffles” to figure out what direction I’m heading!!
LOL Sanae, SO glad I’m not the only one using Never Eat Soggy Waffles. I love this activity, it challenges our minds and gives us a great workout while we hang out together. Thx for reading it
