You guys! 2 years. TWO YEARS!

Can I walk you down memory lane for a bit? Here we go.

We started with 4…

4

then moved to 3…

3

Here’s how the 3 of us began.

And then – just the two of us.

Here’s how it went from 3 to 2.

jen

Here we are today. (PS. My business partner, Jen? Yeah. She rocks. We respect each-other. It works, well.)

If you followed us since the beginning, April 12, 2012 – you will recognize some changes in the site.

We’ve had our fair share of controversy…

but then quickly decided that’s not who we are. Life is too short for controversy, you know? Everyone has that. Jen and I left controversy behind when we left the TV world. We didn’t want that on Her View From Home. We wanted something different. We wanted a place where you can log on and feel like you’re talking to a friend. We wanted a place that highlights your community and the great people that live there.

We wanted to truly highlight your view from home.

I think it’s safe to say, we are there. Finally – after two years, I think Jen and I and the rest of our fantastic gang can see it too. We have two gals that keep us on track and ready to roll, we have a huge group of incredible writers, 6 community editors that are rockin’ awesome, advertisers that keep the site running and you.

You! Thank You! You’ve helped us reach our highest views yet! (If you’re curious, come on – I would be, that’s over 90,000 views in the last 30 days.)

You guys. We are pumped!

The continued growth keeps our spirits high! You hit record numbers during infant loss day. You helped a mother and her family feel comfort after a tragic accident. You helped spread awareness to parents near and far about the dangers of shaken baby syndrome.

You’ve laughed with us, cried with us and heck – even cooked with us!

Now you’re helping us spread the word about HVFH and the great towns all throughout the state, with community sites in Lincoln, the Sandhills and Central Nebraska. Did you know we’re growing? We’re looking for YOU! We want to expand to all areas of Nebraska. Someday – maybe, even across state lines.

Can you help us? Will you continue to spread the word? Tell people who we are?

Do you want to join our team? Help highlight your community?

Gosh – we’ve love to have you.

2 years is big. According to the “big wigs” the year between 2 and 3 is a big deal. This is do or die time. This is when we find out if the business will continue to grow.

We think it will happen. Scratch that.  We know it will happen. We have you guys.

Thank you for two years! Here’s to many, many more! (Yes. I lit two candles, stuck it in a really bad for you but oh so good store bought cookie, and made a birthday wish for HVFH.)

(PS. We couldn’t have done this without my husband (who creates all the graphics and is a huge supporter), our fantastic web guy + team David Lano, and of course – The University of Nebraska for choosing HVFH as the 2012 business plan competition winner!)

OK. I feel like this is an Oscar speech again. Almost done.

A Letter for Your Wedding Day: Friendship Failures (Coffee Chat)

Coffee Chat

Memories come flying back every time my husband and I travel home to Nebraska. We live in Pierre, South Dakota, and life is good. We get into our daily routines, work on projects, visit with our friends, and occasionally we’ll call back home to check up on the family. When the time comes to make the trip to south central Nebraska we hop in the car and head south through White River, Valentine, North Platte, and then head east for the final stretch of the trip home. It is not a bad trip home, it’s only 6 hours tops, but...

Coffee in the Hills…

You GUYS! Wow. Thank you again for the Facebook love earlier this week. I got myself back into the video world and asked for your help to share and share and share some more. And you did. Andddddd – it made me bawl. Because, yeah. I was just so thankful. (If you missed that gem of me bawling – well, you’ll find it on our Facebook page.)   It wasn’t about the Facebook likes (we were hoping to get to 5,000 by April 12, and you guys helped us reach that goal in about 18 hours). Nope – it was...

10 Emotions that Run HVFH – Coffee Chat

In: Coffee With Her

Good Morning! I got up this morning to write a little something for you all. Usually I would stick to my go-to posts of positivity, optimism and gratefulness, but today I have something a little different for you. My alarm went off this morning and my cat jumped on my chest letting me know that she is starving and that she just might die if she doesn’t get treats this very instant. (If I don’t get up immediately, the cat proceeds to scratch my hope chest cushion and sing the song of her people indefinitely.) So I get up, treats...

Love/Hate Relationship with Social Media – Coffee Chat

In: Coffee With Her
Social Media Coffee Chat

This social media thing is pretty neat and a lot of positive things come from social media. Heck, most of our daily visitors come directly from social media links, so how can I complain? I can’t? I love social media—it helps Her View From Home grow and provides the opportunity for all our writer’s stories to get in front of thousands of new eyes each day. It’s great, it really is…but I have a love/hate relationship with it. While there’s a good case to be made that social media is an essential part of any business, there are some cons...

In: Coffee With Her

You guyssssssssssss! I am more than excited to introduce you all to our new design. New design, meet our virtual friends. Virtual friends, meet our new design. And she shall be called, Kate. Because if I ever have another baby (really, Leslie – will you JUST decide already) I think I would name her Kate. Kate is catchy. Hi Kate. We’re talking about the site here, folks. Not another baby. OH, you got that? Just checkin. Can I walk you through the new look a bit? If you’ve been with us for a while, you noticed an immediate change. If...

Ooooh – so close! (Coffee Chat)

In: Coffee With Her

You guys! We were so close to re-launch. As in the new site WAS up and then we ran into an issue. A big issue. We have 4,000ish posts on this site. Say, what?! That’s a lot. And while the fantastic guys on our web team were transferring stories, not all the images came with it. And what was supposed to be a two hour switch yesterday afternoon, ended up being an all day adventure that left me slumped into a pile of mush on the couch bawling. Ug. Being a dramatic female has its downfalls. During my meltdown, I...

Coffee and a Chat

In: Coffee With Her, Featured

You guys. You guys! The past month has been pure awesome-ness. We hit 153,000+ views in January and February is shaping up to be just as strong. It makes me want to screech for joy and shout from a mountain top (or from the top of a large snow pile as that’s the largest mountain in these parts).  But really. I have nothing but thanks. Our writers and their articles are being shared and shared and shared again. Our site is being picked up and the word is spreading. And it makes me sigh. Sigh for happiness. Sigh for relief. Sigh...

I’m Doing it All Wrong! Morning Coffee Chat

In: Coffee With Her, Featured

Hi guys. Sooooooo I have a little confession to make. We’re all off the Judgy McJudgerson bandwagon, right? Cause I have a doozy to spill. Here goes. When we started HVFH, I thought I knew it all. When we won our business plan competition, we went out, launched a website and prepared for the views to come in. Two business partners, two marketing reps and nearly three years later, I now realize I know very little and one could even say I’m failing. Failing, Leslie? Don’t be so hard on yourself. You aren’t failing! Yes. I am. I was. But...

See Ya Soon!

In: Coffee With Her, Featured

Several years ago, Leslie called me up and invited me out for dinner and some drinks – to talk about a crazy new idea she had. I was skeptical. I almost didn’t make it. I was on ‘vacation’ in Nebraska with my parents. My 2-year-old was sick. My baby was needing to sleep – and he never slept through the night. On my way home from the clinic with my 2-year-old and my sister, I stopped by for a ‘drink’. My sister watched a movie in the car with the 2-year old. Inside, Leslie and Heather told me all about...
