Her Miracle Worker Must Have Kitchen Cleaner

We have really, really hard water.

Like, seriously hard.

When we bought our home in 2007, it was a foreclosure.  For that reason, everthing had pretty much been stripped from the house.  Including the water softener (and towel racks, but that’s another story).

We have a lovely little spot for a water softener, but we don’t want to spend the money on one.

We really, seriously should.

But alas, it’s 2012 and we just passed our 5 year home-owner anniversary.  And since we aren’t sure how much longer we’ll be in this house, we don’t want to spend the money on a water softener.  For that reason, we suffer with nasty hard water stains in toilets, showers, the washing machine and the dishwasher.

I know, mom.  We should have purchased one a long time ago.

Even though we suffer through with most of our appliances, I have found one little gem that gets me through the hard times.

Feature writer, Sanae Shea introduced me to this beauty a couple of years ago.

Honestly, it’s like night and day.  Night and DAY folks.  Check out a glass vase before Lemi Shine…

And a similar glass after Lemi Shine.

It’s kinda freaky crazy.  Like – “I should be on one of those info-mercials” crazy.  You can still see spots on the glass, but it’s such a big difference.

These tiny little crystals are like magic scrubbers.  I pour a bit into each wash at the beginning of a dish cycle and..

voila!  Magic happens while I wait!

Now if I could just find the same thing for my showers, toilets and washing machine.  Suggestions?

P.S.  I pick up my bottle of Lemi Shine at Target.  You can probably find them at any chain store, right by the dish-washing detergents!

P.S.  Lemi Shine in no way shape or form paid us to give them huge props.  They should have, but they didn’t.  I’m simply a big fan.  Big. Huge!

I LOVE lemishine! It is awesome! We have hard water as well and I made my own dishwasher detergent, a tablespoon of it and a little lemishine and my dishes are BEAUTIFUL again!

As for our shower, I bought a scrubber for the kitchen, filled it with 1/2 blue dawn and 1/2 vinegar. I “scrub” (aka wipe) it on when I am finishing my shower and let it rinse off a little and it looks great.

Aaaahhhh!! Thank you Leslie! We just recently decided that it is time we tackle our hard water problem in the dishwasher (minus purchasing a water softener). I saw this at Target but I was skeptical, now it’s on the shopping list.

When we got a new washing machine, the guy told me to put a little baking soda in with the detergent and always use powder detergent (he). It does seem to keep the hard water off of the stainless tub.

yes – I’ve found the powder cleaner seems to work best, too. Good idea with baking soda. Mom thinks powder is better for the washing machine as well. The verdict is still out for that one in my house…

we have hard water too and although I use vinegar/dawn after I shower, the shower looks really bad!! I have used bleach, etc. but now I’m afraid it’s ingrained in the sealant and it doesn’t make any difference what I use,it won’t come off. HELP!!!
