Her Movie Night In!
06 Sep, 2012
Kyle and I are big movie fans.
Big.
We were big movie fans when we first started dating/got married, too. But once the girls came in 2008 and then again in 2010, we stopped watching films on the big screen and turned to the good old TV and 3 day movie rentals.
Kyle made a pretty swanky movie room for us. Complete with our own big screen and sound system. He’s pretty awesome like that. (Ooh – I should take down some of the toys and show you how he did it – pretty cheap!) We spent many nights downstairs in our cozy movie room watching flicks like, Pirates of the Caribbean and Tombstone.
But it got to the point where we had too many toys and not enough space, so the movie room has turned into a toy room.
Albeit – a swanky toy room.
Now the girls retreat downstairs to watch their own films on the screen, (Toy Story 3 is a favorite) and Kyle and I watch from the couch upstairs. How did they get the best room in the house? We aren’t sure.
These days we watch at least one movie a week, more during cold weather season. It’s a cheap date night for us and most of the time we can both stay awake. We don’t head out to the 3 day rental places anymore (do they even exist?) but instead turn to Netflix and Redbox. We love both.
Over the long Labor Day weekend we were able to catch two films:
Warrior and A Little Bit of Heaven.
Yes, we have a variety of tastes when it comes to films.
At first I “made” Kyle skip past Warrior (cause, ew – who wants to watch a story about mixed martial arts?) and got right to A Little Bit of Heaven. I will admit, I’m a sucker for a good chick flick or a good cry. This was both.
Kate Hudson is the main actress and she “uses her humor to prevent matters from getting serious after a life changing moment.” It’s a little raunchy, but it does have a good message – or at least makes you think. I bawled through most of it, probably because I was PMSing. This movie is PG 13.
Monday afternoon, Kyle convinced me to watch Warrior. It was on while I was working on our lovely website.
I wish I would have stopped and watched it all.
So yea, there is some of that blah martial arts fighting – but it’s a pretty good story. And – I cried. Again. Kyle liked it too. If you can get past some of the fight scenes, it’s a pretty good flick!
Please tell me – what have you watched lately? I need my stash ready for the cold winter months ahead!
