Her Top 3 Local Halloween Events

Each week I try to pick three of the top events going on in the state. This week is the weekend closest to Halloween. Each city has specific trick-or-treat nights planned out. I can’t possibly post all of them. Just check with city offices for details. Here are some of my favorites for a wide range of ages. (And I only picked ones that were on Friday, Saturday or Sunday to narrow my search. BUT I also love the BOOseum at the Kearney Children’s Museum.)

1. Zombie Bar Crawl

What: Dress up like a zombie and tour the Kearney bars. You may also win prizes along the way. (Only for those 21 and older)

When: 8pm on Friday, October 26th

Where: Kearney on the bricks. The starting Bar has not been announced. They want you to ‘join’ the event on Facebook to find out. (Do that here.)

How much? Free to join. You have to pay for your own drinks and food along the way.

2. Punkin’ Chunkin’ in Petersburg

What: Launch pumpkins. There’s a $500 prize for the longest distance. You’d get to see a ton of really interesting machines ‘chunkin’ pumpkins. Also, pie eating, petting zoo, kid’s candy shoot and more.

When: October 28 @ 1pm

Where: Petersburg (Northeastern Nebraska. Near Norfolk) 1 mi. E. of town on Hwy 32

3. 2nd Annual Old-Fashioned Halloween Party

What: Family-friendly early. Fright night later. Dress up and have a blast learning about past Halloweens

When: October 27 5pm-7pm – Family friendly. 7:30-10pm – Fright Night

Where: Trails & Rails Museum (710 W. 11th St., Kearney)

Other Things Going On

Oct 27-28 - Annual Fall Craft Show. Crawford Community Building. Saturday noon-6pm. Sunday 9am-4pm

Oct 27-28 - Falls City. Halloween Dance and Spooks on the Square. Downtown. More info: www.fallscitynebraska.org

October 27 – Kearney. UNK at the Frank House. Costumed volunteers will read spooky stories. Kids trick-or-treat in each room.

October 27 – Kearney. Builder’s Warehouse. 10am-2pm. Pumpkin Carving Workshop. Pumpkins, templates, tools to carve.
(Only 50 pumpkins available. Once they’re gone, that’s it.)
