Written by Leslie Means

You guys were great this week!  Whew!  So many comments (and we really, really love comments!).

I’m concerned, though.  WAY too many of you have never been to a game.  This must change.  Hopefully we’ll get our hands on more tickets and do another Husker giveaway soon!

Thank You all for such a fun contest and for posting all those fantastic Husker pics on our Facebook page, too.

And now – the winner is:

Lisa Harders
Lisa said, “It has been so long since we have been to a HUSKER game…I would love to surprise my husband of almost 27 years with this game!!!!”

Congrats, Lisa!  Your name was randomly chosen to win two Husker tickets to the September 22nd game!  Yeah!  Congrats and be sure to take a pic when you and your  hubby go to the game!

Lisa – please e-mail me your address to:  [email protected] so I can send those tickets to you.

****************************************************************************************************************

This is serious friends.

If you’ve never been to a game, you must go.  Even if you aren’t a fan, you must go.  Even if you care very, very little about football, you must go.  Even if you really dislike people and crowds, you must go.

I think you understand my point.

The Husker Football Stadium means a lot to me.  It’s where I met my husband.  It’s where I met some of my very best friends.  It’s where I can get chills from a song and tears from a touchdown.  It’s where I’ll sit for hours in the heat, in the cold, in the nosebleed section, just to cheer on my team.  It’s where 85,000+ fans scream, cry, cheer, hug, sigh and do the wave all for one reason.

Husker Football.

And even though I share this college and this team with lots and lots and lots of other Huskers and Husker fans throughout this country, every fall when I walk on campus, I can’t help but feel like it’s mine.

A tiny part of campus was mine in 2000-2004.  And if you want to get really detailed, it will be mine for many, many years to come as I still have plenty of school loans to pay off.

Ugh.

But it was worth it – every penny.  Now, we want you to have a chance to experience it too.  The rush, the chills, the thrill of being on campus in the fall.

Her View From Home is giving away two tickets to the Idaho State vs. Nebraska Football game on Saturday, September 22.  (Start time for the game is pending.  Click here for more details.)

There are 3 ways to enter this contest.

1.  Simply leave a comment on this post!  Tell us why you want to go to the game.

2.  Hit the “like” button on this post.  (Be sure to come back and tell us you “liked” it – so we can track it!

3.  Upload  a husker football picture to our Facebook page or simply e-mail the photo to me at [email protected] and I will post it for you!  If you don’t have a Husker pic ~ simply send us a photo of your favorite fall activity or post it to our Facebook page!

Deadline to enter is 4:30 this Friday, September 7th.  We will announce the winner at 5pm!

Good Luck!!!!

At age 29 after growing up my whole life in Nebraska I finally went to my first Husker game last year! My family was never big football fans, but I married and my in-laws are Big fans. Going to Husker game was something I put on my bucket list and my sister-in-law called me on a Thursday and said can you get a sitter for this weekend I have tickets. Of course I quickly pulled everything together and traveled 4 hours to my first game and it was amazing! I would love to go again.

  • Julie Hoskovec

I also liked this post on Facebook! : ) Thanks for the chance to win!

  • Kylie Bernt

Our family loves to watch Husker football. We would love the opprotunity to take our 2 children to their first game!

  • Kimberly Benorden

I have never been to a home Nebraska football game. It is something I always wanted to do and never have done!

  • Rachel Leach

I would love the tickets as going to a Husker football game would be considered a luxury for us. I would love once to take my son!!

  • Vonda Marks

I have been to two Husker games and you are right, it’s a must do!!! My husband has not been to any games and I would love to get him to one. He thinks “oh, if I get to one I do, if I don’t, I don’t.” He has NO idea what he is missing. I hope whoever gets the tickets enjoys them…..hope it’s me!!

  • Rachel Leach

Is this were I’m supposed to post I liked the update as well? If so, I liked it. :-)!

  • http://bsntherapy.com Brenda Nelson

My husband and I have never been to a Husker game…We have lived in Nebraska for almost 27 years. Sad, I know…We raised a family of 5 and are about to become empty nesters. We are looking for new activities to do as we begin our “dating lives” again!

  • Ashley F

I LOVE Husker Football games! The atmosphere, the food, the friends. Would love to share this experience with my husband. I also “liked” this post!

  • Leigh Calfee

My husband, sons & I are packing up & moving back to Lincoln after 5 months of living in Branson, MO. It’s definitely beautiful here in Branson, but it’s not home. Nebraska is home, and there really is no place quite like it. Attending a Husker game would be amazing and a perfect way to get back into the swing of life in the most beautiful place in the world:)

  • Tammy Earnest

I would love for my son to go to a Huskers Game. He is planning on going to UNL next year majoring in Ag. Engineering!

  • http://www.beautyoutofdust.wordpress.com Libby

I would love to go with my oldest son. He’s never been and you are right, everyone must go! :) I haven’t gone to a game in a couple years. It’s an incredible experience to be in the sea of red.
I liked this post for FB.

  • Mary Ann

I have never been to a Huskers football game and I always wanted to go. I watch the games on t.v and thats great but to hear everybody talk about the feeling you get when you walk in is amazing and I would love to be able to take my son.

  • Leah Peterson

I met my husband at UNL as well and we both LOVE attending Husker games. Thanks for offering a chance to win tickets. :)

  • Tonya Bunger

Husker Football is the best!! Now our son is starting to get “Husker Fever” after watching last week’s game (and being around me and my husband, Nick). Now he is asking to go to a game!! Would love to win tickets so he and his dad could go!! It is an experience like no other!! GO BIG RED!!

  • Tora Knaus

I would love to be able to take my oldest to a Husker game! He is now 10 and starting to play football and if anything can get him excited, it would be the experience at Memorial Stadium!!!

  • Jennifer P.

Being raised in the South and growing up on SEC football, it’s hard for me to imagine anything comparing to football Saturday in the South, yet everyone I meet (including my husband and his family) tells me that a Husker game is a “must” and nothing compares to the feel of the stadium. I would love to win these tickets and be able to experience what Husker football is all about. Besides, who doesn’t love a great football game?

  • Melanie

I get the same rush when I hear the band. My sister and brother-in-law were in the UNL band and I still enjoy going to watch the games. I haven’t been for a couple of years and would love to go back.

  • Brittney Means

Last summer my cousin died of heatstroke at his Army base in North Carolina. Someone from Memorial Stadium heard about his death and gave me and my family tickets to a Husker game. It was a great experience and very emotional, especially during the National Anthem. I want to go back to relive that time with my family.
P.S. I liked this post on my facebook.

I have only attended a couple of games but you are so right about having to attend. The atomosphere is crazy good. The band just makes chills go down your spine when they perform and then the football is always awesome.

Thanks for a chance to win tickets.

  • Diane Dahl

There is no place like Nebraska!!!
And there is no place like Memorial Stadium! Definitely gives you goose bumps!
I would love to win tickets to the game on the 22nd. I would take my daughter and make a weekend of it!

  • Trudy

It has been a long time since we have gone to a big red game, it would be great to go to a game this year! Thanks for the chance!

  • Amy

I’m from Texas and I have never been to a Husker game at Husker stadium. My husband keeps telling me it’s a “religious” experience and I need to try it. So . . . in the interest of martial unity I want to go!

  • Stephanie

It has been a while since my husband and I have gone to a Husker football game. I know that the atmosphere and excitement will be the same, though! My husband is a much bigger fan if football but the experience of the game is amazing! I love watching the band, eating a slice of Val’s pizza, and cheering along! Would love to take my husband to the game!

  • Stephanie

    Liked the post on Facebook,too!

  • Marcie Kostrunek

My husband and I went to a game as newlyweds. It was a true experience as our puppy got sick in the car on the way there:) and we sat by a set of people who scooted over a ‘little’ every time we stood up. To say the least I had a quarter of one cheek on the seat by the time the game was over.:-) would love to go again as a couple.

  • Drew

I would love to take my husband to a husker game this year. We had our son last year on Saturday, Sept 17th. He was a Husker kick off baby born at 2:27 right before the 2:30 kickoff against Washington. So needless to say with a newborn baby it was hard to make it to any games. What a great way to spend time with my husband!

    • Drew

I also liked it on the Facebook page :)

  • Mandy Manley

I have watched many husker games on TV. It would be so awesome to be there live!

  • Jessica

I would love to go to a game because I live out of state now and it would give me a great reason to come home to the “GOOD LIFE” and we all know a husker football game is AS GOOD AS IT GETS :)

  • Siera Hehner

I’ve never been to a game, have always wanted to but haven’t had the money to do so. I’m actually sick & have a lot of doc bills, my bday is coming up on Oct 8 & that would be a really nice gift & would be nice to forget about everything I’m going through for awhile, while watching the game. I’d really appreciate the chance to get to go. “Stay positive & love your life!” – 311

  • Gloria LeDroit

We’d love to take one of our foreign students to a Husker game! We’ve helped host students from over 31 different countries over 26 years and, for some reason, they tend to become Husker fans by the time they leave!

    • Karen S

Nothing notches up the excitement like feeling the game and excitement through your students’ eyes for the first time! Good Luck!!

  • Sandra Nevitt

The reason that I should win the Nebraska football tickets is because I have never been to a game before which makes me a perfect candidate besides I look really good in red. Go Huskers!

I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to get 2 Tickets to a Game. My Husband and I will be Married 19 years this November and have never got to go to a Game together. He went years ago with a Friend. But I have never gone since I was a Kid. I am 50+ years old now. It’s about time I go to a game.

My Husband and I Live in Greeley, Colorado but we are DieHard Husker Fans. I had a Husker Magnet on my Vehicle and someone here in Colorado Shoot out my Window while I was at Work. When I called the Cop and told him he told me that it was because I have a Husker Magnet on my Vehicle. I told him that is not a good reason to do something like that. He said their is nothing he could do and if I didn’t want it happening again I needed to remove my Magnet.

Another time while at Work someone took same Magnet and tore it into pieces and left it on the ground by my Vehicle.

About a Month ago we ate at Buffalo Wings here in Greeley and the Manager of all people asked my Husband if a Bird Shit on his Hat because he was wearing a Nebraska Hat.

Even though we have endured these things happening to us we are still Loyal Husker Fans and always will be.

I most recently decorated my Patio in “Husker” things. Because despite these things happening to use we will always be Die Hard Husker Fans.

We actually will be in Nebraska this weekend because we are bringing our Daughter back to start Joseph’s College and to work on our house in Kearney.

So this would be a Prefect time for us to go to a Game.

PLEASE MAKE OUR DREAM COME TRUE!!! Thanks for considering us!

It’s my alma mater! I love the Huskers (and loved being there in college) just as much as you do. :) I’ve been dying to go to a game since then!

  • Danielle Ring

I am not from Nebraska…..I am from Iowa….I know, I know….dirty words right? Well, I may be from Iowa but I am a HUSKER! I never attended UNL (I did attend UNK). I never was even that into football. And then one year, a few years back, my husband and his uncles dragged me to a game…..IT WAS AWESOME! I never knew it was such fun!! Everything about it was just, well, FANTASTIC!! The noise, the rush of adrenaline you get from just being in the crowd, the friendly faces of everyone around you (who you don’t know but it doesn’t matter!)…..it was a revelation for me! Now, if there is a game on we are watching……I even make sure the fam and I are wearing our Husker gear on game days :) Going to that game made me a believer. We try to go to a game every year, but as money is tight so it won’t be happening this year (that and my hubby’s 10 year reunion back in AZ has occupied our budget). So, I’d LOVE to win these tickets!!! That game is while my hubby will be gone to AZ for his high school reunion so I’d be able to take my sister-in-law and have some girl bonding over football…..only in Nebraska is that better than shopping ;)

  • Danielle Ring

Oh, and I liked via Facebook, plus I pin’ed it and g +1’d it :)

  • Lisa

I love Husker football. I have loved Husker football since I was old enough to know what a football was. One of my earliest Husker memories is of my dad…who is 6’5″ and never gets excited about much of anything…literally jumping up and down in the middle of the living room yelling, “Go Johnny (Rodgers)!! Go Johnny!! Go Johnny!!” when the Huskers won their first national championship. I’m an alum, so I’ve been to many games, but my mom, who is also a rabid fan, had never been until nine years ago when I took her to her first game. She was so excited that she didn’t sleep the night before. My most heartbreaking memory is of the 1984 Orange Bowl and Coach Osborne’s now infamous decision to go for two points and the win, which any fan knows was unsuccessful. I drive a Husker red car with personalized Husker plates. I still turn down the Husker-hating TV announcers and listen to the radio while watching the game…unless the announcer happens to be Keith Jackson. The Tunnel Walk gives me chills and and makes me cry every time. It’s been a few years since I’ve been able to go to a game, and I would love to have the opportunity to go again. I love my team, win or lose, and on a beautiful fall afternoon there is no place I would rather be than rolling in the Sea of Red with 85,000+ of my closest friends screaming GO BIG RED!!!!

  • Lisa

    And I “liked” the post!

  • Donna

Yes Leslie I liked your post. We haven’t been to a football game since our kids were in college back in the 80’s so it is about time to experience Nebraska Husker football once again!

  • Karen S

Of COURSE I “liked” this post! Are you really a Nebraskan if you couldn’t? lol

I would LOVE to win these tickets, but not for the reason you might think. I just found out recently that my mother, a born and bred Nebraskan, has NEVER been to a Husker game! I almost fell over. I’ve been taking our international host students from UNK to games, dragging friends, meeting other relatives and posting all about my joy and excitement and all this while my adorable, sweet, quiet (yes, I REALLY am her child!!) let me bask in the moment without muttering a word about how she wished she could attend. So these tickets will be for my parents if I win! I MUST get a picture from MOM this year cheering “GO BIG RED”!!

  • Monica

Because my husbands a huge fan and has never been to a game!

  • Lenay Palser
