Shortly after I found out I was pregnant with my second son, a wise mother of all boys explained to me that when you have a girl, she is the princess of the family. But when you have all boys, YOU are the princess. Yes! This resonated with me and I’ve spent the last 15 years fully embracing my family princess role. Being the only girl in the house does have its perks.

My sister who works for Walt Disney World was explaining to me how their princesses are being modernized. For a split second I got excited and thought they were launching middle-aged princesses!  :)

Not what she meant.

Disney princesses are getting a make-over and now they have something to prove. They are celebrating what it means to be a girl with this video called “I Am a Princess.”  I think there is a profound message here for girls and women of all ages and stages in life.

As you are dressing up your favorite princess this Halloween, be sure to explain the true (new) meaning of the title as defined so eloquently in this video.

Hail to the princess in us all. Long may we reign!
