Join Her Book Club: Discussion of the Hunger Games
07 Nov, 2012
Want to join the discussion? Here’s the background of the book to jar your memory!
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins-“May the odds be ever in your favor.”
In an attempt to control the districts of the bleak place once known as North America after the up-rise of district 13, the Capitol started the Hunger Games. A televised battle to the death, in which each of the twelve districts must enter one male and one female child, ages 12-18.
Katniss Everdeen has been the sole provider for her family since the death of her father. Desperate to keep her family alive, she has broken the law countless times to hunt, insuring her name would be entered more than once in the Hunger Games lottery. Her worst nightmare comes true when her 12 year old sister’s name is called. Without a thought for her own safety or how her family would survive without her, Katniss volunteers for the Hunger Games. Thrown into an arena with her district’s male tribute, Katniss vows to stay alive for the well-being of her sister and mother. Only one thing is certain, she must kill or be killed on live TV.
Will she survive the Hunger Games? Read and find out for the all new Her View From Home book club starting this month!

I love to immerse myself in stories from multiple genres. I surround myself with shelves of books, in addition to tons of Kindle books waiting to be devoured. Reading has always been one of my greatest pleasures, as well as one of my top priorities. I’m always excited to discuss what I’m reading and I can’t wait to get started with the book club. Some of my favorite authors: Alice Hoffman, John Greene, Marcus Zusak, Anya Seton, Stephen King, Kerry Cohen, J.K. Rowling, Margaret Atwood, Siri Hustvedt, Andy Nance, and so many more than I can list.
I am currently revising my fourth young adult novel, as well as completing some short stories to enter into contests. I belong to a brilliant online critique group, featuring some amazing published authors, Kate Milford, Christine Johnson, Lisa Amowitz, Heidi Ayarbe, Lindsay Eland, Cynthia Henzel, and some brilliant writers who are still working on getting published, myself included.
I am also a featured writer for HVFM. My posts can be found in the family section, starting on October 12, regarding divorce, blending a family, and co-parenting with an ex.

My love of reading goes back to my earliest memories. Escaping into the worlds of my childhood favorites made me want to be a writer. Books are an important part of my life and they have always surrounded me. I’m almost always reading at least one book, with a stack waiting on my book shelves. I love revisiting the books of my childhood by reading them to my children.
I read just about any genre and finding other people who love reading and discussing what they are reading is one of my favorite things. I’m looking forward to this book club to share what we’re reading with all of you! Some of my favorite authors are, C.S. Lewis, Neil Gaiman, Charlotte Bronte, Willa Cather, Daphne du Maurier, Meg Cabot, Jane Austen, Suzanne Collins, Diana Wynne Jones, Chuck Palahnuik, Margaret Atwood, and J.K. Rowling. Although this list really could go on and on.
I have previously had poetry published and am currently working on my 2nd Young Adult book. I’m also a feature writer here on Her View From Home focusing on things to do and places to go in Nebraska.
Along with this upcoming club, I’m also the co-leader of the Forever Young Adult Omaha group (foreveryoungadult.com/fya-book-club-locations) book club “For YA readers who are a little less Y and a bit more A”, and when I get the chance I join in the book club at my church.

I also love reading!!! I am currently in a myster book club, a retired librarian’s book club (tho I’m not a librarian!), a historical fiction book club, and a teacher’s book club (tho I’m not a teacher!). Thus I read just about anything & everything tho I can leave sci fi & horror alone pretty easily. Which leads me to the comment that I have read all of the Hunger Games books and enjoyed them quite a bit! I also enjoyed the movie! I look forward to the discussion on the book.
Looking forward to discussing Humger Games with others

Great idea!
Books HAVE become “My View from Home” since becoming ill and my new ‘career’ as a stay-at-home Mom. I loved the Hunger Games series and can’t wait to see what others think too. I’m very excited about the new book club part of the site! YAY girls, you just keep making things better and better when I already thought they were divine!

I can read but don’t. This has got me intrigued. Can’t wait to get started.
I have loved reading for as long as I can remember. Even before I was old enough to read I would get books from the library for my mom to read to me. When I was growing up the library was my favorite place to go.
