My grandma used to live in a house near Lemoyne that had a gorgeous view of Lake McConaughy. She recently moved into Ogallala, but we have wonderful memories from all of the times we visited her at her lake house. I was going through some old photos recently and found some that I had taken in her backyard.
When you’re used to views of cornfields and pivots and highways, a visit to the sandhills is a refreshing change! Everything looks different – the land rolls gently into hills, there is tall golden grass and cactus everywhere, and Lake McConaughy in the middle of it all.
Nebraska sunsets are one of my favorite sights. The ‘rim of the prairie‘ turns pale yellow, then gold, then fiery orange as the sun starts to sink below the horizon.
I see a sunset like this and it makes me think, “There really is no place like Nebraska.”
