I fell in love with Love You Forever by Robert Munsch in high school. I know it sounds weird, a high schooler falling in love with a book about being a mom. But it is one of the stories that our choir director, Mr. Shack, would read us before we started class. I’m pretty sure if you ask almost any of our choir alumni we could sing the melody we used for, “I’ll love you forever, I’ll like you for always, as long as I’m living my baby you’ll be.”
About a week ago my daughter found the book in her room. Now she loves the book. She will ask, “Mommy sing?” We lay in her bed or cuddle on the couch reading, singing and rocking together.
The love between a mother and their child is unbreakable. Even when circumstances aren’t as planned.
Robert Munsch released a statement that he wrote this book after having two children stillborn. He had the song in his head, but couldn’t sing it because of the pain. A song that many of us know have come to love through his book.
Pregnancy and infant loss is all to common. No matter what stage a mother loses her child, they will always be her baby! As a mother that miscarried her first baby, I understand the feeling all too well.
To my sweet baby, As long as I’m living my baby you’ll be!
