Your First Day of Kindergarten
Today is your first day of kindergarten. Today is the first step in your journey to be part of the world, separate from me. From your birth until now, you have spent almost all of your days with me. Today I must put you in another’s hands. I hope they know how much you mean to me, how special you are.
Today and every day you are apart from me, I will pray that you have courage. I pray you will not become a bully or be bullied. I pray you will stand up for yourself and for others in need. I pray you try to include others and that you don’t feel the slight of exclusion. Today I must trust I have taught you well; to be kind, to be good, to listen, to learn, to be open to new things.
Today I am proud of how far you’ve come. I’m excited for all you will learn and experience. As much as I wish I could shield you from the heartaches you will encounter now that you are so big, I must rest assured knowing they will make you stronger. I hope you know deep inside when your heart is broken, your ego bruised, or your feelings hurt; your father and I will always be waiting to comfort you in your sadness.
As much as my heart is breaking for the loss of the baby you were. As much as I wish I could keep you little, safe, and mine forever; I look forward to the adventures we will have as you grow up and mature.
Be brave my little one. If you feel scared or nervous I hope you remember my love surrounds you.
Today part of my heart and soul will enter the classroom with you. They are always with you.
