Throughout the pregnancy after loss journey, there is a constant inner battle of wanting to over document your pregnancy and the anxiety of wondering if this bump pic will be your last.⁣
⁣
This would be my last bump pic before our second son made his entrance.⁣
⁣
This is the first time we experienced the beginning of the third trimester.⁣
⁣
This is the first time we experienced the pregnancy waddle.⁣
⁣
This is the first time we experienced me losing the site of my toes.⁣
⁣
This is the first time we experienced taking maternity photos, even though it was with IVs and outside of the hospital.⁣
⁣
While we were grateful to experience and get to the third trimester, what this didn’t mean to us yet was survival and we still grieved the experiences we didn’t get to have.⁣
⁣
Pregnancy after loss changes the entire pregnancy journey.⁣
⁣
It’s hard to find hope, even if you want to.⁣
⁣
It’s hard to find joy, even if you want to.⁣
⁣
Yet under all of the emotions, there is love.⁣
⁣
Love for your child in heaven and love for the child in your beautiful belly.⁣
⁣
Love is what keeps us going.⁣
⁣

This is what reparenting looks like in my life.⁣

This is what reparenting looks like in my life.⁣
⁣
When she cries, sometimes I want to say, “You’re fine, stop crying.” But then I remember that all emotions are acceptable and I can validate and create a safe space for her tears.⁣
⁣
When she says “No,” sometimes I want to say, “Don’t say no to your mother!” Then I remember that I wasn’t allowed to say no to my parents and how I want to empower her to speak up and set boundaries.⁣
⁣
When she asks “Why?” sometimes I want to say, “Because I’m the parent and I said so!” Then I remember being shamed by our parents or faith community for questions often leads to painful deconstruction.⁣
⁣
When she requires help, sometimes I want to tell her to do it herself. But then I remember I’ve learned it’s ok to ask for help–and that safe people will be a soft place to land for me.⁣
⁣
When she shows strong leadership skills and decisiveness, sometimes I want to call her “bossy” and “strong-willed."Then I remember the years of shame I experienced from being labeled this way as a child.⁣
⁣
Peggy O’Mara said, “The way we talk to our children becomes their inner voice.”⁣
⁣
When my children grow up, I hope and pray I’ve saved them years of therapy and pain. And that through my own work of reparenting, I have helped my children develop secure attachments, strong sense of self, and a deep faith in a loving God.⁣

The quick pitter-patter following the unlatching of the door is one of my favorite parts of the day.⁣
⁣
It means Dada is home and it means our little lady is running to greet him with smiles and squeals.⁣
⁣
“Dada! Dada! Dada!” She screams until she’s hoisted into his arms. He smothers her with kisses and she erupts in giggles.⁣
⁣
The moment itself is so endearing. Giggles. Hugs. Kisses. Reunited after a workday.⁣
⁣
But it’s really so much more.⁣
⁣
She has the best dad.⁣
⁣
When he twirls her around and calls her beautiful, I know that he is setting the stage for what she deserves.⁣
⁣
That she’s beautiful. That she’s one of the best parts of every day. That she’s lovely and kind. That she’s so incredibly special.⁣
⁣
I do a lot of the day-to-day management. But these moments are meaningful. You’re single-handedly setting the bar for her. That is no small feat.⁣
⁣
Because of you, she’ll know that love is patient and kind. Because of you, she’ll have a foundation for love. Because of you, imagining a gracious Heavenly Father isn’t too difficult. Oh, my love. What good and meaningful work you do in our home and the lives of our babies. How blessed we are to be loved (and spoiled) by you. You’re the best part of our day. ❤️⁣
