The Sweetest Mother's Day Gift!

We’ve all got one on our Christmas list.

The difficult person to shop for, or the person who could have everything.

But if I could tell you the truth about so many of us…you might be surprised to know the gift we love the most.

We don’t want a gift because it’s expected.

Truth is, we’d rather not have a physical gift at all unless it’s something we use regularly or keep on a wishlist for one day.

You can give it to us, but there’s a good chance it’ll be donated if we don’t need it or it doesn’t add value.

Some might say we are scrooges.

Others, too practical.

Maybe even pessimistic.

But we like what we like.

It might be cuddling on the couch with quality time watching our favorite Christmas movie.

It might be getting a letter in the mail or a surprise note on the dash of the car telling you how much you love us.

It might be doing that task on the honey-do list we’ve been avoiding or cooking us our favorite meal.

It might be giving us the warmest hug and holding our hand as we take a walk and look at Christmas lights together.

It might be a physical present of our favorite coffee or something fancy like a designer bag that’s been on our wishlist for 15 years.

But the truth is, the gift is you.

We’ve known all along that stuff isn’t important. It’s just you. We love you. We simply use things and aren’t attached to many of them.

You make our holidays special.

Stuff is just stuff.

People and doing life with you. That’s what we want.

Love,

Angels Rang My Doorbell on Christmas Eve—and it Changed Everything www.herviewfromhome.com

I remember a Christmas—I had to have been about 11—when my single mother took me aside one day and said, “Ash (she probably really called me by my nickname SMASH), I have to ask you a favor.” She then proceeded to tell me that this year, her Christmas budget was close to nothing. She said, “I need your help; the only thing I was able to purchase for you was a nail polish, and this year I need you to be OK with that.” I was long past the years of asking Santa for presents, but I had never imagined...

5 Ways To Enjoy Christmas When You Are a Mama Grinch www.herviewfromhome.com

I loved Christmas as a kid. The second Halloween was over, I’d get my list ready for Santa and craft and hang homemade decorations on my bedroom window. We woke up extra early because my dad usually had to work on Christmas, but that was fine because I was always awake all night anyway. Then, we’d go to my grandparents and do it all over again. It was all about family, friends and the joy of the season. And then I...
