We recently sold the house we lived in for five years. We always knew it was an “in-between” house for us. It was the sunshine we needed at the time five years ago after going through some pretty heartbreaking events in our lives.
When we moved in, we had a 2-year-old and a 3-month-old. When we left, we had a 7-year-old, 5-year-old, 2-year-old, one baby boy in Heaven, and one baby boy in the womb. We found out news of some major medical test results as we pulled into the driveway one Friday afternoon that changed our lives forever.
We had many date nights in because we are raising multiple littles without family close by. I recovered from having one baby there and from losing one baby there.
We received devastating news about different life events there. We had many sleepless nights. We had many nights when we slept soundly. We had many nights when we paced the dark hallways with a colicky baby.
We had many dance parties, sleepovers in mommy’s bed because daddy was at the fire department, and many late nights taking care of sick babies. We hosted many birthday parties for our kids, brewed lots of coffee, and our kids created lots of artwork at the well-loved kitchen table.
We laughed a lot. We dreamed a lot. We grew our family.
While life is never perfect on this side of Heaven, there are always moments that will stay etched in our hearts forever. This home was the sunshine we needed to help propel us to this next chapter in our lives. This home was a place where our kids felt safe.
It brought healing. It brought hurt. It brought beautiful memories. It brought tears. It was a place where we could be us and feel all the things as a family.
The little yellow house will always be a place where we remember dreaming again. It was a small home that brought big memories. It taught us that the square footage of a home does not dictate the size of your joy.
Keep dreaming. Keep loving Keep making memories.
