The Sweetest Mother's Day Gift!

My heart . . . 💔

Second day of 1st grade and he came home with four pages of homework . . .

He already doesn’t get home from school until 4 p.m. Then he had to sit still for another hour plus to complete more work.

I had to clear out the kitchen so he could focus. His little legs kept bouncing up and down, he was bursting with so much energy just wanting to go play.

Then he broke my heart when he looked up at me with his big teary doe eyes and asked . . .

“Mommy, when you were little did you get distracted a lot too?!”  💔

Yes sweet baby, Mommy sure did, too!

I don’t know how people expect little children to sit at school all day long and then ALSO come home to sit and do MORE work too . . .

It’s been tested and proven time and time again that homework is actually highly unnecessary and actually hurts children more than it helps . . .

If this little guy’s face doesn’t confirm that for you then I don’t know what would.

If we do anything in this cancel culture, can we please cancel so much unnecessary homework? Especially for the younger kids.

It’s breaking their spirit and it robs them of what little fun and family time they have when they come home after a long day of school.

Mom/Teacher Responds To School's Viral "No Homework" Policy

Photo credit via Samantha Gallagher Facebook Page     With school starting up for the fall, homework once again becomes a hot topic. The only subject that makes both parents and kids simultaneously groan in agony is sure to be talked about, complained over, and negotiated in more than one household across America over the next nine months. At least one mother and her daughter are already celebrating the promise of no homework for the year with fellow classroom peers and parents. Why This Teacher Says There's No Place For Zeros in Today's Classroom www.herviewfromhome.com

Recently, an Orlando middle school teacher went viral for posting her goodbye letter to students in dramatic fashion on a whiteboard. She says she was fired for giving students zeros for homework not turned in (which was reportedly against district policy), while the district maintains her performance was subpar and has alleged physical abuse. No matter who you believe, the news has captured the attention of many. The debate has been reignited: are zeros appropriate?  And if we’re not handing out zeros, what, exactly, ARE we handing out?  As a teacher myself, let me give you the lowdown: schools in America...

To homework or not to homework? That is the question. www.herviewfromhome.com

When I began life as a mom I made a terrible mistake. I read a book. It was a parenting book discussing the pitfalls of our current education system. As my firstborn toddled around the house with a tot-knot and sippy cup, I vowed to praise her efforts instead of doling out mindless positive reinforcement. I tried to say, “You worked hard coloring that page!” instead of “Good Job!” Another take away from the book was that homework was invented by Satan. Satan desires to have school children across the country argue with parents over spelling words. He also delights...
