The Sweetest Mother's Day Gift!

There is not one day that wrestling doesn’t take place—even during family pictures. Or ever one full day of a cleaned-up house without some sort of mess of toys on the floor. Or a time when shoes aren’t thrown off when their little (kind-of-big) selves walk inside. Or a moment when their sports equipment isn’t scattered around the porch.

It’s never quiet around here: basketballs being dribbled, a baseball being tossed against the wall, a Nerf gun battle, music being played, or an argument over who won the latest competition is our constant background noise. Paper airplanes may even get you in the side of the head while you’re trying to rest.

Every day, there is also always some version of . . . Thank you. Mom, watch this! Look at me! Can you shoot hoops with me, Dad? Will you help me with this? I can help with that. My sit on mom-mom’s lap. One more hug before you leave, please. I love you more. Celebrations. Snugs. Laughs. Hand holding. Love. So, so much love.

And if you’re lucky, sometimes those paper airplanes will have sweet words written inside for you. Boy life is busy. It’s loud. It’s often chaotic.

Sooner than we think there won’t be wrestling or random sports equipment in every room of the house. And it’s definitely going to be much quieter. So, for now, we will embrace the chaos and hope we teach them a little something about life along the way because raising boys is the best thing we get to do.

There’s Something Magical About a Boy Mom

Mother surrounded by four sons, color photo

I met a lady today who introduced herself as a mama of three boys, and I knew we could be fast friends. As a mama of boys myself, I’d imagine we’d probably spend hours swapping stories about breaking up fights and learning superhero lingo and the ER trips for the most bizarre things.  We could look at each other without saying another word and understand the challenges and the joys that come with being a boy mom. We get it.  We know how it feels to be unsure of ourselves, entering a little boy’s world for the very first time. RELATED: Mothering Boys is...

Muddy boy plays by water

Coming from a home with three sisters and practically swimming in an ocean of estrogen my whole life, I had no idea what to do with a boy. When I had my firstborn, boyhood was a complete mystery to me. Having boys and a girl, I can tell you that they require you to tap into two completely different sides of parenting. Both are hard in their own ways. But raising boys is just constant noises, weird smells, and bizarreness. If you’re a boy mom, you know exactly what I mean. My sister, mom of two girls, is always a...

My first born is a boy and you know the phrase he’s all boy, well that definitely applies to my boy. Here are some boy mom truths for you to choke on. Oh, I’m sorry, I meant chew on. You see when you have boys, you spend a lot of time choking on whatever food you are chewing whilst discovering them in the middle of some pretty precarious activities. 1.    Hide the knives. You may think that you have time to spare before you actually have to do this, but my son was two when he first discovered knives. One...
