  • He Took His Last Breath in the Only Outfit I Ever Bought Him
•
The tears began to pour down my face as the walls of the store felt like they were closing in on me. People went about their shopping, oblivious to me, the mother who would never get to watch her son grow up. I would never buy the adorable swim trunks, or the next size in pajamas. I would never pick out little shoes and I would never see my son walk for the first time. My gravely ill son would never reach those milestones.
•
I handed the outfit to my mother and told her I had to leave, the anxiety and heartache proved to be too much. I raced out of the store and started sobbing on the sidewalk, not caring about the concerned looks from strangers as they passed by.
•
Four days later, I held my son for that final time. I rocked him as I read to him, staying strong so he wouldn’t see the heartache that I felt. And as I watched my beautiful son, I glanced at his outfit. He looked at peace, snuggled warmly in his little blue sleeper.

  • This fall... If I planned it right, I could get in bed when the kids went down and I’d watch the sun set. I wouldn’t necessarily fall asleep but I would sit there until it was dark. This picture was taken in the most physically/emotionally/spiritually exhausting time. It reminds me of the grace we are given every day. The sunset on my face in the quiet of my own home when I felt like I couldn’t face the next day was His grace poured out in the most intimate way. And His grace was enough.
•
Now His grace looks like a 5, 4, 3, 1, & 4mo old keeping me home when I sort of feel like hiding anyways. I could feel trapped (which most days I do) because it’s cold out and hard to go anywhere with that many littles OR I could feel blessed by a forced season of simplicity and staying home. It’s a minute by minute choice.
•
This season is allowing room to think and heal. To cry and process. I want to run from that. But I simply have too much time... it’s just me, my minions, and the Lord over here every day. So I chose to see Him in it all.... the mundane, the heartache, the joy, excitement, fatigue, and messy... His presence is always near... but I have to let the sun hit my face and acknowledge Him.
