You came into this world bright-eyed and ready. For what? Neither of us was sure yet. From day one you have been brave, and strong, and making waves. The fire in your eyes burns brighter with every bit of information you soak up. Your strength is only rivaled by your curiosity, and your intelligence is second to none.

Even at such a young age, you stretch the limits until they threaten to break. Your mind knows no bounds, and your imagination is always worlds away from us. You, and all of the friends you haven’t even made yet, do not see old traditions as “just the way things are” but rather question “what can we do better.” I see it in all of your eyes, that fire burns brighter by the day.

You don’t see this world for what it is but rather for what it could be.

You know people hold far more worth than their outsides may show.

You understand that the ever-growing seed of curiosity that was planted in your heart and has taken roots in your soul isn’t a bad thing, but a gift.

You link arms with your friends and when they start to drag behind, you don’t leave them, but rather join together to carry them through.

You were a generation built for change.

Born on the cusp of a reckoning so large it makes the ground shake, you don’t run from it but to it. You are always discovering and learning and imagining because it was who you were born to be.

Please know your mama is so proud of you for that.

As you get older people may try to tell you to be quiet. To sit down. Get your head out of the clouds, kid, come back to the real world.

I beg of you, do not listen to them.

Do not let them quiet your spirit or cage your mind. Do not let them plant your feet firmly on the ground because you were meant to fly.

You were meant for big things, little one. Great things. You and your peers have the power to do monumental things that will go down in the history books and change lives. Together you will break barriers and move mountains. You will tear down walls and lift each other up. You will walk through the remnants of what this world was today to make it what it will be.

My mama walked so I could run.

I ran so that you could soar.

You were built for change, baby. Your whole generation was. We are rooting for you.

I’m a full time bookkeeper, but my favorite “job” is being Mama to my sons. I have a love for all things personalized, early morning cuddles, and way too many sweets. Writing is my favorite way to talk about how much I love motherhood and my hope is that the things I write will resonate with other moms.
