Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, my family has brought back the family movie night like never before. From mid-March through August, we watched a movie together three to four nights a week, each family member taking turns choosing the film. I’ve loved showing my kids some of my favorite movies from childhood, and one of my most recent picks was the ’90s classic A League of Their Own.
Much to my delight, my kids loved it! So I was even more delighted when I heard today that an Amazon reboot of A League of Their Own is officially happening!!!
According to Amazon, the reboot is not a movie, but rather a TV series from showrunner Abbi Jacobson. They call it a “reinterpretation” of the story of the All-American Girls Baseball League, but whatever it is, I am HERE FOR IT!

Though I realize it may be difficult to create the magic of Geena Davis, Lori Petty, Tom Hanks, and Rosie O’Donnell, I’m excited for the A League of Their Own reboot anyway. Why? Because the amazing story of the fierce women of the All-American Girls Baseball League is one that we still know too little about, in my opinion.
The new A League of Their Own series will follow the Rockford Peaches team members and the issues they face as working professional athletes in World War II-era America.
The Hollywood Reporter says the series “dives deeper into the issues facing the country while following a ragtag team of women figuring themselves out while fighting to realize their dreams of playing professional baseball.” In a time when our country is still sadly facing many tough issues, I’m very interested to see if and how the series will treat the topics of sexism and racism as it pertained to these female professional athletes at the time. Will we see that much has changed, or still not enough?
We don’t know too much about the show now, but no matter what, I’m going to give it a chance! I mean, it’s A League of Their Own!!! How could I not?
