For the past 21 years I have been loved, supported, encouraged, and inspired by my wonderful mother. As a young adult I don’t know the meaning of being a mother and I don’t fully understand all of the hard work that goes into parenting, but I do know that my mom has done a phenomenal job since day one. I am the oldest of six children and we haven’t exactly made it easy on mom. Even on our worst days, she has continued to love us unconditionally.
I’m often a pain, indecisive, whiney, constantly worrying, and stressed about the future. Mom is usually the first person to receive a phone call when I’m nearing an emotional breakdown. Being the wonderful persona that she is, she listens to what I have to say even if it is the same thing I’ve been worrying about for the past 2 weeks. Within the past 21 years I have faced a lot of difficult and overwhelming situations. The loss of a close friend, graduating from high school, moving away from home, and deciding what my future holds. I can honestly say that I would not have made it through any of it without my mom, my best friend.
When I stop to think about the great relationship I have with my mom and how blessed I am to be loved by her, I think of all the children who don’t know a mother’s love like I do. There are children all around the world who have mothers that don’t show their love and others who have never known their mom. It breaks my heart to know that other children have to grow up without the never ending love of a mother.
Although today is about honoring your mom for helping you become the most beautiful version of yourself, take a moment to pray for all of those without a mom. Let this be your guide to celebrate how blessed you are to have experienced a mothers love at some point in your life.
Sevenly is an organization that teams up with a new charity each week to draw attention to their cause and help others support a new mission. This week Sevenly has teamed up with Show Hope, an organization that helps orphans in Asia find food, shelter, and care, but most importantly, a family.
This campaign ends Monday May 12th at noon. I encourage all of you to honor your own mother by visiting Sevenly.org and helping this cause.
My mother has helped me blossom and grow each and every day. I hope that others will be blessed enough to experience and someday provide that same love for another.
Happy Mother’s Day!
