The Sweetest Mother's Day Gift!

Here’s the thing about traveling with little kids. Is it hard? Sometimes.

Sometimes it looks like a whole carry-on dedicated solely to snacks, activities, and emergency treats.

Sometimes it looks like buying a drink for the passenger next to you as a way of saying sorry and thank you all at the same time for the airplane kid chaos they endured.

Sometimes it looks like altering your picture-perfect itinerary that you meticulously planned on account of missed naps finally catching up.

Sometimes it looks like washing a car seat off in a hotel shower because your toddler got carsick, then proceeding to blow dry it in hopes it dries before your flight home.

Sometimes you wonder if all the planning and prepping is worth it or if you should just put adventuring on hold. Sometimes. But here’s the thing about traveling with little kids: Is it worth it? Always.

Always instilling the life lessons of discovery, love, and respect for all people and places as you watch little eyes light up with every new sight.

Always forming a stronger bond with your husband that deepens with every high and low moment of parenthood you work through together on the trip.

Always reminding yourself that experiences over materialistic things are the best gift you can give your children.

Always making precious memories you know will fill your heart and theirsboth now and years down the road.

Always realizing that all the planning and prepping is worth it. Life moves fast and isn’t meant to be put on hold. Always choose the adventure. Always.

Two years ago, in the middle of a snowy, windy, Colorado March, my husband and I made the spontaneous decision to road trip to Arizona with our three very young kids.  Even though I was excited, the nerves were so very real. Over the next couple of weeks, I literally lost sleep worrying about the logistics of our trip. My late-night mindless scrolling was replaced by searches like “traveling with toddlers” and “keeping kids entertained on road trips”. We already had our hands full chasing kids at home in a familiar setting. Were we crazy to think we could just...

Dear parents, Take the trip. I know the idea seems daunting. Between the sleepless nights the sneaky slips and moments where you feel you’ve lost full control of that tiny human you created, why would ever even consider leaving your home, let alone the city, state, or country? But I promise you, it is not as scary a compromise as it seems. In fact, in the long run it is so very, very rewarding. We only get our children to be our captive audience for so long. Let’s call it 18 trips around the sun, where we have them as...

Want to Raise Happy Kids? Make Time For Family Vacations www.herviewfromhome.com

The swimsuits are still in a heap in the corner of my dining room. Two weeks later, they’re the only remaining physical evidence of our recent family vacation to the ocean, one we counted down to with our kids for weeks ahead of departure from our home in the Midwest.   And gosh, we had the best time—relatively easy air travel with four kids in tow; no one got sick or hurt; we swam and laughed and giggled and played and recharged as a family. It was the kind of trip filled with memory-making and experiences that brought us closer...
