“I got you, Mommy!” You squeal as you whirl around me, grabbing my legs. Picking you up and squeezing you close I say “You’ve always got me, baby.” I wish you knew I meant it in so many more ways than just your favorite game.
You’ve always got me, when you’re tired and just need to climb into bed, snuggled up with your favorite blanket.
I’ll be there to tuck you in, kiss your sweet face, and tell you I love you just one more time.
You’ve always got me, when the morning light starts creeping in and you’re ready to play. I’ll be there to lay in the floor with you and build trains while you munch on your favorite breakfasts.
You’ve always got me, when you’re hurt and all you need is the comfort of your mama. Even years from now when you’ve far outgrown my lap, your happiness will always be front and center in my heart and I will do whatever I can to heal your heartaches.
You’ve always got me, when you find yourself in trouble. Whether you messed up on a test or with a friend, no matter how old you are or how bad it is. I’ll always be there to help you find a way to make things right (and to offer a speech, depending on the situation, I am your mom after all).
You’ve always got me, when life seems like it’s just too much. If you need a hand to hold, a shoulder to lean on, or an ear to listen, I’ll always be there.
One day I won’t be in the next room, but you’ll still have me.
As long as I am living I will always be no more than a phone call away, and even after I’m gone I will still be with you. I promise that you will never have to go through this life alone, because you’ve always got me.
You see, my sweet baby, from the day you entered my life it became my number one job to make sure that you know I’m always here. Mama will always be with you, whether I have my arms wrapped around you, I’m standing beside you, or I’m watching from the sidelines.
I know that one day you will go out into this world ready to shine with your light. I know that I won’t always be able to hold you within the safety of my arms, but you will always have me.
I will always be your number one fan, your comforter, and your voice of reason.
No matter what, baby, you’ve always got me.
