Sweet holy quarantine dreams! Disney just made an announcement that LITERALLY made me jump for joy: the film version of Hamilton with the original Broadway cast will be streaming on Disney+ on JULY FREAKING THIRD!!! That’s just 52 days, if you’re counting, and I totally am!
I adore Hamilton and was able to see it in Cincinnati about 14 months ago, but thanks to the novel coronavirus pandemic, it’s going to be quite awhile before I or anyone else will be seeing it live again.
Knowing this, Disney did something amazing—they changed the release date of the Hamilton from October 2021 to July 3, 2020.
I am so excited and grateful!
It’s only a matter of time…
Our Hamilton film.
THIS July 3rd.

Disney executive chairman Robert Iger talked about the decision to release the Hamilton film early on Twitter, saying “We’re thrilled to bring the extraordinary @HamiltonMusical to #DisneyPlus on July 3. In this very difficult time, this story of leadership, tenacity, hope, love & the power of people to unite against adversity is both relevant and inspiring.”

Well said, Mr. Iger. Like many #HamilFans everywhere, let me just say I couldn’t agree more.
The Hamilton movie uses amazing filmed performances of the original cast at the Richard Rodgers Theatre from June 2016.
How exciting is that? Not only do we get to see the original cast, including the musical’s creator Lin-Manuel Miranda as Alexander Hamilton, we also get to celebrate our country’s Independence Day with a good reminder of the struggles, stories, and sacrifices that freedom requires—in what is perhaps the most entertaining and poignant way possible. I am personally really looking forward to seeing this historic musical on that historic stage from the comfort and safety of my own home.
I am sure that I speak for Hamilton fans around the world when I say, “Thank you, Disney! Thank you, Lin-Manuel Miranda! Thank you for realizing we REALLY needed this during this historic time!”
Let’s get those watch parties planned, mamas! Virtually or in-person, Hamilton is even more amazing with friends!
