No one warned me how overstimulating motherhood would be.
The baby is crying. The kiddo is screaming. The dishwasher is running. The microwave is beeping. The phone is buzzing. The doorbell is ringing.
The dishes need washing. The floors need sweeping. The laundry needs folding. The food needs cooking. The trash needs emptying. The groceries need putting away.
Our kids need us. Our husbands need us. Our families need us. Our friends need us. Even the dang dog needs us.
The calendar is full and so are our brains. We’re burnt out, touched out, and flat-out worn out. And sometimes, well, we just can’t keep up anymore.
And the tears come. The outbursts come. The desperation for just one dang minute of peace comes.
From the outside looking in, we may appear angry. Grumpy. Impatient and ungrateful. But really, we’re not any of those things. We’re just overwhelmed.
Being a mama is the biggest and best blessing of my life. It’s also the most challenging. And although it may seem unfair, sometimes a mama just needs an extra dose of grace in the middle of her meltdowns because no one warned her just how overstimulating motherhood would be.
