A Gift for Mom! 🤍

Dear Daughter,

As you turn 13, I can hardly believe how quickly the time has flown by. It feels like just yesterday you were celebrating your seventh birthday in that adorable pink and yellow pineapple sundress from Children’s Place. Back then, you were all about American Girl dolls and Barbies, and now those toys are tucked away, only to be revisited when our friends with little ones come over.

Now, you’re on the brink of your teenage years, finding delight walking the aisles of Ulta and Sephora as you explore your love for all things skincare. You’ve introduced me to some of the best routines and products, from your favorite Sol de Janeiro sprays to tips that elevate our beauty game. It’s delightful to see you take charge—waving my hair with your hot iron for special occasions and sharing your expertise makes my heart swell.

Your friendships are blossoming, and you’re learning the importance of setting healthy boundaries. Watching you discover your passions and stand firmly in your values is inspiring. I strive to instill in you the confidence to embrace who God created you to be and to remain discerning in every situation.

Your ability to articulate your feelings and make thoughtful decisions is extraordinary. You’ve developed a spicier side, reserved for those closest to you, and you’ve grown into an enthusiastic baker, treating our family to your delightful chocolate chip cookies and refreshing acai smoothie bowls.

Time seems to slip through our fingers faster than I ever imagined, and I know it will continue to do so. The saying “the days are long but the years are short” couldn’t ring truer, especially when I stumble upon one of your Barbie accessories lying around the house, reminding me of your childhood.

As you continue to grow, I’m filled with joy as I witness the young woman you are becoming: strong, smart, confident, faith-filled, beautiful, and dedicated to serving others. And, of course, still maintaining your love for skincare.

I love you dearly,

Mama

Dear Daughter, Do Not Be Perfect

In: Child, Journal, Relationships

My child. I don’t want you to be perfect. People will say that you are when you are quiet and sit in your chair without fidgeting.  When you get top marks or come in first.  When you meet their every expectation. But you are not perfect. Do you hear me? You are NOT perfect. And I’ll never expect you to be. Ever. It’s important for you to know this because it’s so easy to believe that THAT is what is expected from you. But it’s not. It’s so important for you to know this because you’re going to mess up....

13 Pieces of Advice for My Son on his 13th Birthday www.herviewfromhome.com

As this new season known as the teen years is now officially upon us, here is the advice I have for you, my sweet teen son… Be respectful. Treat others the way you would like to be treated. Have a firm handshake and look people in the eye. Face the flag, take your hat off, and be quiet. Think before you speak. Always thank a veteran and everyone in uniform. Until you’re a doctor, don’t bring your phone to the table. Always say thank you, especially when you have been given time. Compliment the cook. Work hard and remember, no one owes you anything....

Dear Daughter at 13, You Are Perfect

Teen girl smiling

The day after my 13-year-old daughter asked to use my makeup to cover the splotches of acne dotting her T-zone, we found ourselves in Target’s beauty section. I remembered what it was like to be her age. Even when acne was minimal, it felt massive, like a huge target drawing disgusted stares from everyone in the school halls. So, having made it to her final year of middle school, I knew it was time to arm my daughter with a few basic beauty items she was inquiring about but had not yet explored. As we zigzagged our way through aisles...
