Make Room, Chip and Jo—Mickey’s Coming to Target

Your Target run just got a lot more magical—thanks to some pixie dust from Disney.

The retail giant and the Walt Disney Company announced a new partnership over the weekend that will place Disney Stores inside 25 select Target stores across the country in the coming weeks, with plans to more than double that number by early 2020.

Basically a match made in animated heaven, right? 

The companies say you’ll find a whole lot of the Disney magic families have loved for generations inside the stores—think toys from your favorite movies, character clothing, and merchandise not previously sold outside of Disney retail locations. The stores will average about 750 square feet—plenty of room for kids and kids at heart to get lost in some of the best parts of childhood.

In a press release detailing the project, Target officials described the look and feel of the new venture as family-friendly and fun: “Disney store at Target will offer a welcoming and engaging shopping experience for the entire family, with music, interactive displays, photo opportunities and a seating area where families can relax and watch Disney movie clips and Park events.”

Disappointed your local Target isn’t one of those earmarked for the expansion? Take heart: there’s an online version of the shop ready to go, too. 

“We know there’s a very strong overlap between both Disney fans and Target shoppers so we’re looking forward to reaching Disney fans when and where they want to shop,” Target CEO Brian Cornell told reporters this weekend. “It’s an opportunity for us to bring our brands together and delight our guests for years to come.”

Target will also have an increased presence at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida; a brand new Target is planned to open in 2021 near the entrance to the park. 

The Disney stores at Target will launch along with merchandise for the upcoming Thanksgiving return of Anna and Elsa in Frozen 2—just another reason the stores are sure to be teeming with Disney fans when the stores open their doors in October.
