The Sweetest Mother's Day Gift!

It’s that magical time of year again—the snow is falling, Christmas lights are twinkling, and retailers are making us all misty-eyed over their heartfelt holiday commercials.

And this year’s contribution from tech giant Apple, highlighting its Hearing Aid function on AirPods Pro 2 earbuds might have just won the emotional cake for the whole season.

The ad takes place in the living room of an average family. A mother, father, and their teenage daughter look to be enjoying a cozy Christmas morning when the girl’s mom hands her a large, wrapped gift. “I think I know what it is!” the teenager exclaims, as she peels back the green tree-covered paper. The camera pans to the dad on the couch, and suddenly the excited chatter becomes muffled as she uncovers a new guitar.

The scene flashes back, and we see the teenager replaced by a young girl opening a pint-sized yellow guitar on a Christmas morning past in that same living room. A montage of clips plays, showing that little girl growing up—babbling as a toddler, excitedly strumming a toy guitar, waving to the camera as she climbs the steps to school. Throughout the flashback, the audio remains muffled, and as the scene returns to present day, the teenager begins to play the guitar and sing something indecipherable.

The woman taps her husband on the shoulder and says, “John, listen.” He opens an AirPods Pro 2 case, and as he nestles the bud in his ear, the sound of the couple’s daughter singing becomes crystal clear thanks, as we soon understand, to the device’s “Hearing Aid” function.

The poignant words and music of “Our House” by Graham Nash play over that same montage of the little girl, this time with perfect audio. Her voice and laughter overlay clips of a fleeting, joyful childhood—the kinds of images and sounds all parents understand grow more precious as our children grow.

As his teenage daughter finishes the song, her father’s eyes glisten with tears . . . and so, I admit, did mine.

Have a watch, and I’m willing to bet you’ll be in the same emotional boat:

Apple describes the Hearing Aid function as a breakthrough for millions of people living with perceived mild to moderate hearing loss:

For so many of us, sound and how we hear shape how we connect to the world around us. Yet, people with hearing loss wait an average of 10 years before getting their hearing tested and fitted for hearing aids. Leaving millions unaware they’re living with hearing loss and without the assistance they need.

Now with the world’s first end-to-end hearing health experience, you have access to a Hearing Test that provides scientifically validated results within minutes and the ability to activate a clinical-grade Hearing Aid feature on your AirPods Pro 2 — right from home.

The 5-minute hearing test can be done using the AirPods 2 Pro and a compatible iPhone or iPad with iOS 18, and utilizes a series of tones played through the AirPods. If the test detects you have mild to moderate hearing loss, you can follow the prompts to set up the Hearing Aid feature.

Well done, Apple!

(PS: AirPods 2 Pros are on some seriously great sales for Black Friday right now!)

This Viral Hallmark Commercial Will Make You Sob Into Your Ice Cream

It’s not often I swear at a greeting card company, but after the beautiful emotional blackmail that is their Mother’s Day commercial, I had some choice words for Hallmark. Jaykay, Hallmark. I’m not really mad that you got me RIGHT IN THE FEELS and made my mom heart start to spasm, I’m just really emotional right now . . . BECAUSE YOUR COMMERCIAL is the most beautiful, terrible thing I’ve ever seen! I blubbered like an idiot when I saw it and immediately reached for some ice cream to drown my feelings in. OK, fine, it was an entire pack...

“Love Doesn’t Lessen With Loss.” Chevy’s Emotional Holiday Ad Has Us Feeling Weepy

Chevy commercial showing older couple walking down steps to vintage car

‘Tis the season of good food, good movies, and good commercials.  One of the most memorable commercials from last year’s holiday season was Chevrolet’s “Holiday Ride,” which told the story of a widower and his grown daughter leaning on each other as they grieved their loss during the holidays.  The ad was a tough act to follow, but the auto company rose to the occasion this year with their brand new “The Holidays with Mrs. Hayes” commercial that released on Thanksgiving Day.  If you caught the commercial’s debut on national television during the Giants vs. Cowboys game, you saw the...

Santa...Can You Bring My Daddy Home? Nebraska Girls Get Christmas Wish and We're All Crying www.herviewfromhome.com

North Platte, Nebraska had a flood of tears at the Platte River Mall—happy tears, that is.  Celebrating Christmas was going to be bittersweet for the Ross kids. Seven months ago, their father was deployed to South Korea with the U.S. Air Force. He still has months to go on his assignment.  However, Staff Sergeant Jacob Ross was able to take leave to be home for Christmas. He wanted to surprise his girls with an extra-special homecoming memory. Once arrangements were made for the trip home, the fun of planning the surprise started.  Cassie Condon, property manager at the mall, said the...
