Featured Writer of the Week (Rachel Gnagy – Inscribed Photography)

I’m an accidental blogger. When Her View From Home started in 2012, Leslie asked if I would like to be a contributor. I started sharing some of my photographs and writing short posts about them. A few months later I started doing recipe posts. Three years and over 80 posts later, blogging has become a fun way to connect with people from all over the country. I love the opportunity to share my work, to talk about how I see the world through my lens, and to inspire others. 

My husband and I live in central Nebraska with our two sons. I’m a stay-at-home mom and I also own a small photography business. 

 

I don’t have quite as much time to read as I used to, so when I’m browsing online I love sites like KelbyOne and CreativeLive. Both are amazing educational resources for creatives. I enjoy learning new techniques and hearing from world-class instructors.

I like having something to listen to while I do housework or work on the computer, so I’m always browsing Nebraska Overdrive or One Click Digital to check out free audiobooks. 

Pinterest is another favorite. Sometimes I call it ‘research’ for photography, but mainly I just enjoy looking at cool pictures and finding interesting posts!

 

When I’m at home, I’m busy taking care of my 2-year-old, Isaiah, and 7-month-old, Malachi. In between diapers, eating, naps, and playtime, I try to accomplish some household chores. When the boys are napping, I am usually on the computer editing, designing, or corresponding with clients. 

 

Be real. Be genuine. It’s so easy to fall into the trap of creating content based on what is ‘trendy’ or successful. That will never be a true reflection of who you are and what makes you unique. Write with sincerity.

 

I’ve had several that stand out because of how much fun I had while writing them. This one about pregnancy and maternity pictures is a favorite, talking about the importance of documenting special times in our lives. It reflects my particular season in life as well. This one still makes me laugh because it’s about the vacation I never wanted… but ended up loving. This post is the first in a short series about photography. I love photography and it’s wonderful to be able to teach others! This recipe post is a favorite of mine because we eat grilled pizza all the time and every time, I have to look up this post to make the dough.
