Just before Christmas my other half and I ran into some old friends out shopping. We spent a few minutes saying ‘Hi’ and then the other fellow asked us if we ever thought about getting our old Card Club together again.
Now just to keep you in the loop, old is over 25 years since we had regular card club. You know, kids and ball games and work and Yadayadayada got in the way.
Standing there, I thought to myself, someone must do SOMETHING, so I said sure. Let’s have card club at our house. Bless my other half for not making a noticeable sound. I’m sure inside he had plenty to say.
So we instantly put the whole thing out of our minds and had a wonderful Christmas.
Now we are weeks into the New Year and the date comes up on the calendar! OH Yeah. . . .
I don’t know about your home, but evidently we live in squalor, because knowing that people were going to be coming to our house, puts me into some sort of Wild Woman Mode. Just ask my family. Sweep that floor!! Dump that trash! Scrub that toilet!! Clear that Counter!!
OH and I’ve got to create a finger food. Not from the store, something from my kitchen.
You got it! I hardly recognize myself. Everything comes under scrutiny. NOTHING is safe.
By the time Card Club time arrives, my sweet other half and I are both exhausted. People come and then…
WAIT A MINUTE.
Card Club is not about all that other stuff. It’s about people getting together, laughing out loud, sharing stories and making connections. And that is just what we did.
No one commented on my house, clean or dirty, because it did not matter.
What mattered was the old friends coming together. Old friends sharing pictures. Old friends making the old connections strong again.
I recommend you have Card Club at your house. Old Friends are worth it.
