I’ll be honest, with my team not in the Super Bowl this year, I pretty much showed up for the game exclusively for the commercials and snacks. I expected to get in a few good laughs (I’m looking at you, Jason Momoa), and test the effectiveness of my stretchiest pair of stretchy pants.
What I didn’t expect was to be left bawling at the end of the second quarter after seeing Google’s commercial featuring a sweet old man and his better half, Loretta.
In the commercial, soft music plays in the background as the words, “How to not forget,” are typed into the Google search. Then old man’s voice floats across the music, “Hey, Google, show me photos of me and Loretta.”
Photos of the couple floated across the screen, and I LOST IT.
The adoration oozing from his voice as he reminisces about the life he shared with his young bride is the stuff of love stories, and it’s everything I hope to share with my own husband.
But you don’t have to take my word for it, you can see for yourself here. Just grab the tissues before you press play:
While his identity has not been publicly identified, USA Today reported that the sweet old man narrating the commercial is the grandfather of a Google employee. Whoever he is and wherever he may be, I think the world owes him a big thank you tonight for reminding us what true love looks like.
