Living in the middle of nowhere has its disadvantages at times. Not many in my book, but a few! One being, not having a local YMCA or a place like that where I could go work out. I was thrilled when a boot camp was offered locally. When I say locally, I still drive 60 miles round trip to attend. I have never joined a class of any type of “organized exercise” as I call it in my lifetime. I am a couple weeks into it and I think I am addicted boot camp! Yes, my body can feel the aches and pains, but that is a good thing. I feel awesome knowing I am doing a good thing for my body. I have more energy and I look forward to my next class as soon as I finish my current class! Who would have thought!!!
I was looking forward to sweating, burning calories, losing inches, building muscle and probably what most women like to see…..weight loss. I have been eating healthier, but have not seen the scale budge. Ugh! What!?! I discussed with my trainer my lack of weight loss. Of course, you are building muscle and muscle weighs more. She asked me about my diet and was shocked when I told her not what I ate, but WHEN I ate. I am not a huge breakfast eater. Like most moms, I am super busy and there are a lot of days I don’t eat my first meal or snack until mid afternoon. She explained to me that my body has no metabolism because it is holding on to everything I do eat because it thinks it is starving. She has encouraged me to eat at least five times a day….starting with breakfast…ha! She encouraged me to eat more protein too.
I have started putting something in my stomach first thing every morning and eating regular meals the last week and guess what…..I have lost a few pounds! Since I am not a huge breakfast person I now start my day out with a simple shake.
It is really easy to throw a few ingredients into a blender and be on your way.
1 banana
2 Tbsp Creamy Peanut Butter
1 Cup Skim Milk
1 Tbsp Cocoa
Ice-use as much as you like.
Throw all the ingredients into the blender and blend!
I typed this recipe into the My Fitness Pal recipe calculator. My Fitness Pal is a free app that allows you to track your exercise, food intake, and much much more. It is pretty awesome and FREE!!!

If you want to increase the protein in this shake, a great option would be to substitute the milk with Greek yogurt. Greek yogurt is loaded with protein!!!
Have a great day!
