Mama, you GET to be the one. The one they run to

Mama, you GET to be the one.

The one they run to when they fall.

The one who jumps up when they call.

You’re the one who laughs at their jokes and cooks their favorite meal on their birthday.

You’re the one who cleans their mess and calms their fears.

You’re one with late nights and early mornings.

You’re the one who worries and frets and questions it all.

And at the end of the day, while they are snuggled safely in bed, you often lay there wondering just what all you did wrong.

But mama,

Their greatest dream is you.

In all your messy and imperfect and trying, they get a glimpse of what it looks like to see a mama who pushes on.

A mama who loves them with all she’s got and makes their needs her own.

And as they grow big and grow strong, they’ll often look back at how their mama always seemed so strong.

They’ll wonder how you did it and always made it look so easy.

And then, they’ll learn the truth as they have children of their own . . .

They’ll see what it means to be a mama who somehow just keeps on.

They’ll see what it means to lean into a Savior with a strength far beyond their own.

And as the roles seem to change, one thing will remain the same...

To them, sweet mama, you’ll always be the one.

Dear Mom and Dad,

Notice the little things about me.

The things that make me uniquely me.

The things that give you a window into my heart.

The things that not everyone else might see.

The things that make me feel cherished and known when I realize you recognize them.

Notice the little things about me.

Like the feel of my hand in yours. Like the way I offered comfort or friendship to someone. Like the light in my eyes for time with someone I love. Like the sound of my laugh. Like the kindness I showed. Like the way I problem-solved something. Like my big imagination and creativity. Like the way I learned and adjusted when something was tough, then tried again. Like the things I really love—animals, or singing, or the outdoors, or playing ball, or whatever might make me me. Like the brilliance of my ideas and thinking. Like the way I asked for help when I needed it. Like my willingness to try something new. Like the way the sunshine falls on my face. Like my joy or sadness over different things. Like the goodness within my heart.

Notice the little things about me.

And then tell me about them.

Tell me your eyes see them.

Tell me your heart knows me.

Tell me you love me, for all those little things that make me exactly me.

Because that's not a little thing—to me.

Dear teachers, I know you spend your own money on

Dear teachers,

I know you spend your own money on craft projects, books, supplies, and things we’ll never know—just so your students can have a better experience in school.

I know you lie awake at night, praying for those kids.

You celebrate the wins, and your heart breaks with the hurts.

You teach, yes. But you’re so much more.

You’re a leader, a champion, a steward of their hearts, minds, and souls.

You think of those kids long after the year ends. There are some, I’m sure, you never forget.

You are their constant. In times of joy and in times of pain.

Thank you for taking care of our babies and big kids (who will always be our babies) all year and for encouraging them to do their very best.

Thank you for the macaroni necklaces and daily activity reminders.

Thank you for your patience and your kindness.

Thank you for loving them.

Thank you for helping them fly.
