The Sweetest Mother's Day Gift!

She didn’t have to do the dishes. She was there to give us a break while my husband and I went out for our monthly date night and my birthday dinner. The dishes weren’t a part of that deal, but she did them anyway.

That’s the beauty of sisters. They know just when to step in and step up so you don’t completely lose your mind. They can see it on your face when life catches up to you and you’re close to breaking down. They know when you’re drowning, and without a thought, they dive in to save you.

She didn’t have to do the dishes, but she did them because she knows even though I have a supportive and helpful husband, we’re both going through the same whirlwind adventure of raising an autistic son while still being first-time parents. She knows I never stop and rarely get to relax, and while that’s a part of life, she doesn’t want to let me struggle just because I chose this life.

She didn’t have to do the dishes. She has her own life, but she remembers me. She doesn’t allow me to go through things alone and is ready to do whatever is necessary to help me keep my head above water. She gives us the desperately needed time together as a couple and doesn’t hesitate to take my son the moment we get out of the car if she knows I’m having a bad day.

She didn’t have to do the dishes. And while the dishes may seem insignificant to her, they meant the world to me. It reminded me that I need to allow others to care for me sometimes. The biggest gifts are in the smallest actions, and they don’t go unnoticed, especially when you’re in the pricker bushes of life right now. She didn’t have to do the dishes, but I’m so thankful she did.

How Blessed I Am That God Gave Me Sisters

Old photo of sisters

Growing up, I always thought it would be so fun to have an older brother, especially when I was a teenager and realized how easy it would be to have my choice of older brother buddies to moon over and dress up for. Some of my friends swore by the big brother effect, but I didn’t have their luck. I didn’t have a big brother; I didn’t have a big anything. I was the oldest of three girls. Not the prettiest, not the youngest, just the one who had to do everything first and pave the way to make it...

Sisters Are Friends For Life

Sisters in field

My two girls. Oh, how I love having two daughters. I love seeing your sisterhood unfold right before my eyes. Two sweet girls to grow up together and have one another. I see that raw deep love you share for each other—it carries through even on the toughest days. There are days when you are best friends and then there are days you are each other’s fiercest competitors. You challenge each other daily. You know each other so well, you know what makes the other laugh and you certainly know what makes each other angry. RELATED: How Blessed I Am...

My Sister and I May Be Opposites But We’re Best Friends

In: Friendship
Two sisters hugging and smiling

On the surface, we don’t have much in common. In fact, no one would peg us as sisters.  She has straight, dark hair. I have wiry, curly, blond hair.  I have fair skin that burns with a hint of sunshine while her olive skin glows like a tanning-cream commercial in summer.  Her kids thrive at public school while she maintains a successful job outside the home. I’ve prided myself in homeschooling my five children over a decade.  She’s a liberal. I’m a conservative.  She loves heels. I wear flip flops year-round.  At the end of our long list of differences...
