A Gift for Mom! 🤍

If you’re anywhere around the age of 40 today, you remember the unparalleled joy a McDonald’s Happy Meal brought to your childhood.

It was a treat to eat at the Golden Arches with your family. You got your food in a cool cardboard box with a yellow “M’ handle. You filled a kid-size cup all by yourself with orange Hi-C from the fountain machine. You fought with your siblings over who got to sit on the Hamburgler stool. You opened your bag of Grimace-shaped crunchy cookies before you ate your actual food and secretly gloated about what a rebel you were.

And then, there were the Happy Meal toys. We got the good stuff: a hamburger with eyes that transformed into another thing with eyes. The California Raisins. Real Hot Wheels cars. Those tiny little video camera-looking things you could see images from The Rescuers inside when you peered through its one-centimeter viewfinder. Beanie Babies. Chicken McNugget guys. Actual VHS tapes of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

And, of course, the crème de la crème: collectible glass cups.

My neighbor had the Smurfs AND Garfield sets (yes, I was appropriately jealous). There were Flinstones, the Muppets, Snoopy. I still let out a little squeal when I see one at a thrift store or garage sale. The shape, the feel, that instant nostalgia—it goes straight to that tiny, permanent corner of our ’80s and ’90s kid brains.

McDonald’s, naturally, realizes this (not to mention its chief marketers and execs are probably all our age). So it will come as no surprise that the fast food giant is about to tap into that vintage vibe and release a brand new set of collector’s cups.

Beginning August 13th, customers can get one of the six limited edition cups with a Collector’s Meal—during breakfast hours that’s a sausage and egg sandwich, hash browns, and coffee; for lunch and beyond it’s a 10-piece nugget or Big Mac, fries, and a drink.

There is one notable difference: the 2024 cups are “shatter-resistant BPA-free plastic.” Reboots never can quite capture the original magic completely, after all.

Here are the six designs:

My teenager just walked by, saw the cups on the screen, and said, “That’s at McDonald’s? Can we go to McDonald’s?”

Yes, my child, yes we can. Hurry up, August 13th!

The Backstreet Boys' New Video Will Give Moms ALL the Feels {Swoon!} www.herviewfromhome.com

So, I’ll admit it. When I heard the Backstreet Boys had a new video, I rolled my eyes a little bit (and that has nothing to do with the fact that I have New Kids on the Block tickets for May, I swear . . .). But, as any lover of 90s music will do, I watched it anyway! And you guys . . . true confessions . . . I LOVED IT. I might even have teared up a little bit! The song “No Place” from their upcoming “DNA” album will tug at any mom’s heartstrings like no other....

I’m Giving My Kids an ’80s Summer

3 friends in the '80s

Let’s indulge, this summer, sweet friends. Time has slowed down. Life’s pace has given us a genuine chance to remember. Remember what life was like before the world convinced us it’s always better to be on-the-go. Don’t hold back. They need to know. RELATED: I Want to Remember This Time So I’ll Never Be Ungrateful Again Rewind that clock.  And, let’s teach our children the art of those Sandlot-style 80s and 90s summers.  Lost, but not forgotten. Captain Crunch with chocolate milk for breakfast.  Barefoot in the backyard.  Wireless. With an entirely new meaning. Emptying the laundry basket. For this...

Kids Today Will Never Know the Joy of a 90s Summer

In: Humor

So you want a good old fashioned 90s summer, huh? I don’t blame you. The 90s rocked! (Literally, thanks to Kurt Cobain and Eddie Vedder.) I’m not going to lie—I take slight offense to the use of “old fashioned” and “90s” in the same sentence, as I’m pretty sure the 90s were like 10 years ago, but I’ll still help you out. If you’re really doing this though, you’ll need to ditch some of your modern conveniences, like your phone. I know, I know, but it’s a requirement. You may bring a beeper or clunky flip-phone, but no internet allowed...

McDonald's Halloween Boo Buckets on orange background

They call it a Happy Meal for a reason, my friends—and this news is bound to make you smile.  McDonald’s casually dropped the news this week that every kid’s favorite fast food dinner is about to be served up the old-fashioned way: in a nostalgic plastic Halloween bucket.  That’s right, Boo Buckets are baaaack!  guess who’s coming back pic.twitter.com/7iBvLVLyhB — McDonald's (@McDonalds) October 6, 2022 McPunk’n, McBoo, and McGoblin (that’s right, they have names!) will make their spooky season appearance starting October 18th at participating McDonald’s locations for as long as supplies last.  McDonald’s first introduced the pails back in...
