So, I’ll admit it. When I heard the Backstreet Boys had a new video, I rolled my eyes a little bit (and that has nothing to do with the fact that I have New Kids on the Block tickets for May, I swear . . .). But, as any lover of 90s music will do, I watched it anyway! And you guys . . . true confessions . . . I LOVED IT. I might even have teared up a little bit!
The song “No Place” from their upcoming “DNA” album will tug at any mom’s heartstrings like no other. My emotions got played like a fiddle while I watched this video, which features homey, organic scenes of the Backstreet Boys members with their wives and kids. There are cute scenes of them doing regular, everyday activities together, as well as some sloooow dancing in the living room. (Happens all the time in your house too, right??) The song is all about how even though the Boys have been around the world and done amazing, glamorous things . . . there’s no place like home and no feeling like being with their loved ones.
The song is sweet, the scenes with the adorable kids and beautiful wives are honestly cute and not nearly as cheesy as you’d think, and darn it? Their voices are still AMAZING after all these years!
I’ll be honest, even though I was really, really, REALLY distracted by A.J.’s “Hammer pants”-type sweats (please watch this and TELL ME WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THOSE PANTS!! I need to know!) I kind of loved the whole thing. Yep, I’m as emotional as they come, and this song and video just made me want to HUG THE CRAP out of my kids!! And slow dance in the living room with my husband!
Check it out for yourself and see if you have the same reaction . . . I’m willing to bet you do (especially if you were a teen in the late 90s)!
Amazingly, the Backstreet Boys are celebrating 25 years together this year (that makes me feel OLD), and I love it that they’ve been able to move their music along with their different life stages. These dads can still sing, and still be relevant, bringing in new fans and staying true to what brought them their old school fans as well.
Nice work, Backstreet Dads! You just made a whole bunch of ladies swoon in an entirely different way . . . and we want it that way!
