A Gift for Mom! 🤍

Gone are the days of pushing you on swings and practicing your letters.

Gone are the days of rocking you to sleep and taking walks with you in the stroller.

Gone are the days of swaddling your tiny body and spoon-feeding you dessert.

Gone are the days of you calling me Mommy because now I’m just Mom.

Gone are the days of you wearing capes around the house and running through the sprinkler in your diaper.

But . . .

Here are the days of you riding your bike without training wheels and scoring your first goal.

Here are the days of you tying your shoelaces and cracking eggs for breakfast.

Here are the days of you doing chores around the house and learning the value of a dollar.

Here are the days of you telling me about your day and reading the bedtime story to me instead.

Here are the days when you take the waves head-on and don’t always come to me when you get hurt.

Here are the days when you hug just a little bit tighter and love just a little bit harder.

Here are the days that will one day inevitably be the days that are gone.

And when the new days take their place, I’ll be here my sweet little one, just as I’ve been all along.

There’s Just Something About Mamas and Their Boys

Dear Jackson, Today didn’t go at all how I expected. Usually, when moms have me come to the hospital, to capture their firstborn meeting their sibling, it’s pretty stinkin’ adorable. Not that you weren’t adorable. (You were.) It’s just that most times, there is holding and kissing and lots of questions involved. But as soon as I walked in—before you came up—your momma, she was a wreck. She told me that you, Jackson, YOU were her baby. Your sweet sister, well, she was a surprise. They weren’t planning on her yet, anyway. But life is funny like that. She was...

There’s Beauty in Having Big Kids, Too

There’s something about when your kiddos can load the dishwasher, mop the floor, and start a load of laundry. There’s something about when they can put their own clothes away and style their hair without any help. There’s something about when you realize you’re in a totally different season. I’m there. RELATED: I’m Between Babies and Big Kids It’s this weird realization that I no longer have babies. I no longer have toddlers. I no longer have preschoolers. My kids are growing up way too fast. It’s all so weird but also wonderful. I’m excited about this new season. It’s...

When Little Helpers Turn Into Big Kids

In: Kids, Motherhood

We have a big family—five kids if you’re counting (which I sometimes do, just to make sure we have everyone). And honestly, I don’t really think about having a lot of kids or a big family until someone else points it out to me. It really doesn’t feel like that big of a deal. But there are moments when I’m suddenly aware of the way our family spans the different phases of childhood. With a toddler, a kindergartner, an elementary kiddo, a middle schooler, and a high schooler, we hit almost every one. And those moments help me see the...
