The Sweetest Mother's Day Gift!

After dinner, I took a bath and got ready for bed. It was earlier than usual, but I was tired. And in need of some quiet.

My husband came into the room and I told him I was wiped and needed to rest. He understood. He turned on Food Network for me and then went out to take care of the bedtime routine and the other odds and ends that needed to be done before bed.

I felt guilty, but he reminded me we are a team and that guilt wasn’t necessary. We work together. We support each other.

My head fell back onto the pillow as my heart filled with love and gratitude.

A little while later, he came into the room carrying a tray. On the tray was a mug of hot cocoa. And not just any hot cocoa. Hot cocoa with chocolate chips, cherries, and whipped cream. One of my all-time favorite treats. He even brought the bag of chocolate chips and whipped cream because he knows I like to refill, at least twice.

Oh, my heart.

He could have been frustrated. He could have been resentful. He could have thought, I had a hard day, too. Why does she get to rest and I don’t?

But that’s not how it went. He filled my heart, my soul, and my belly.

And the best part is, when he brought the tray in, our oldest was sitting on the bed saying goodnight. She pouted for a second when she realized the cocoa wasn’t for her, and then I saw a smile spread across her face. I am sure it brought her joy to see her dad loving her mom so well.

I was glad she saw his love in action.

This man loves me so well. He filled my cup. As he does time and time again. And my heart is immensely grateful.

Dear Husband, I Love You For All the Little Ways You Care

Dear Husband, I Love You For All the Little Ways You Care www.herviewfromhome.com

Dear husband, As I write this, I am patting the back of our 3-year-old while she drifts off to sleep and you rock our screaming 8-month-old. It is going to be another long night and I know we won’t get a chance to talk again until about this time tomorrow. We haven’t been on great terms lately. Maybe because we both work long hours and only interact momentarily as we brief each other on the daily activities and status of the kids, or because we are both so tired it is hard to even shower without a little extra nudge....

Dear Husband, Every Day I Choose You

In: Marriage

I got lucky. What I mean is, I married the right guy. I married the guy who lets me speak first during an argument. Even if that means I’m yelling. I married the guy who’s patient, loving, and more importantly, knows how to make my coffee. Just the way I like. I married the kind of guy you want to bring home to meet your family. The one you eventually want to make one with. The guy I want my son to look like. Be like. The kind I want my daughter to one day marry. And regardless of our...

Five Things to Remember as You Prepare to Make Your Way Down the Aisle www.herviewfromhome.com

I was approached recently by a lovely woman from my church community and asked if I would be willing to say a few words at her daughter’s wedding shower. I answered yes immediately (forgetting obviously my discomfort speaking in front of people). My impulse to say yes came from a deep seeded passion for all that I believe a marriage can be. Ok, and maybe a skosh from feeling flattered she thought I may have a relevant offering to her soon-to-be wed daughter. Entering into marriage is not a decision to ever be taken lightly. A decision that seems to...

For a Marriage That Lasts, Remember Why You Chose Each Other www.herviewfromhome.com

I’ve often been asked, “What’s the secret to a happy marriage?” and “How have you guys stayed together so long?” Typically I reply with a simple word such as “communication” or “friendship”. And although those are actually true, they don’t even begin to define my marriage or scratch the surface of the many years my husband and I have been together. I feel like I can confidently say that many couples wouldn’t have made it to where we are today if they were placed in our shoes. They wouldn’t have survived his deployment to Iraq not one year into our...
