There is not one day that wrestling doesn’t take place—even during family pictures. Or ever one full day of a cleaned-up house without some sort of mess of toys on the floor. Or a time when shoes aren’t thrown off when their little (kind-of-big) selves walk inside. Or a moment when their sports equipment isn’t scattered around the porch.
It’s never quiet around here: basketballs being dribbled, a baseball being tossed against the wall, a Nerf gun battle, music being played, or an argument over who won the latest competition is our constant background noise. Paper airplanes may even get you in the side of the head while you’re trying to rest.
Every day, there is also always some version of . . . Thank you. Mom, watch this! Look at me! Can you shoot hoops with me, Dad? Will you help me with this? I can help with that. My sit on mom-mom’s lap. One more hug before you leave, please. I love you more. Celebrations. Snugs. Laughs. Hand holding. Love. So, so much love.
And if you’re lucky, sometimes those paper airplanes will have sweet words written inside for you. Boy life is busy. It’s loud. It’s often chaotic.
Sooner than we think there won’t be wrestling or random sports equipment in every room of the house. And it’s definitely going to be much quieter. So, for now, we will embrace the chaos and hope we teach them a little something about life along the way because raising boys is the best thing we get to do.
