It’s already been more than 20 years since Freaky Friday starring Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis released—but we won’t have to wait much longer for the sequel.
Both stars teased the long-awaited follow-up to the 2003 hit on social media this week:
“It’s been such a great time making this film,” Lohan shared on Instagram. “The wonderful cast, crew and everyone from @disneystudios have invested so much time and love into making this movie!”
While no plot details have been released yet, Lohan shared a glimpse into the tone of the movie in her post, calling it “a story of family, mothers and their children and a film filled with love, laughter and a ton of heart!”
Lohan praised costar Jamie Lee Curtis for bringing joy to the set as the two reprised their mother/daughter roles of Tess and Anna Coleman—a sentiment the megastar echoed in her own social media post.
Freaky Friday grossed over $160 million in its theatrical release in 2003, and remains a favorite Millennial flick today. Several original cast members are reported to be returning for the sequel, including Mark Harmon and Chad Michael Murray. Lohan is also reuniting with the film’s fictional girl band, Pink Slip, which means we’re getting new Lindsay Lohan vocals as part of the movie too.
There’s a scene in Freaky Friday when Anna-in-Tess’s body realizes what’s just happened, looks at herself in the mirror and gasps, “I’m OLD . . . I’m like the cryptkeeper!” Of course, now that we ’80s and ’90s kids are about the age Tess was in the film . . . the sequel is bound to hit a little differently.
Freakier Friday is set to release in theaters in 2025, and one thing’s for sure—we’ll be there.
