To the mama rocking her child to sleep,
You aren’t doing it wrong.
What could be wrong about how her sweet little hand wraps perfectly around your index finger as she falls into a deep sleep?
Or the way her entire body seems to melt into yours as if there is no place on Earth that could be as comfortable as you?
Or how her soft breath tickles the side of your neck and makes you close your eyes, take a deep breath, and thank the Lord that she is yours?
To the mama rocking her child to sleep, you aren’t doing it wrong.
What could be wrong about doing the dishes in the morning?
Or leaving the house a mess for the night?
Or waiting another day to take a shower? I mean, it’s already been three days.
To the mama rocking her child to sleep, you aren’t doing it wrong.
What could be wrong about living in the moment, right here, right now?
Or soaking in the pure bliss of being able to comfort your child like no one else can?
Or being what you were meant to be, a comforter, a protector, a mother?
To the mama rocking her child to sleep, you aren’t doing it wrong.
What could be wrong with providing your child with exactly what she needs?
Or with giving her the same comfort she knew when she was inside your womb?
Or with letting her feel like she is the only thing that matters in the world? Because in this moment, she is.
To the mama rocking her child to sleep, you aren’t doing it wrong.
You are doing what you have to do to.
You are doing what you want to do.
You are doing what you are meant to do.
You are doing it just right.
