Our Keepsake Journal is Here! 🎉

My house will never be worthy of photographs. It will always have dust in the corners, a random piece of straw on the floor, and lacking that interior design spark.

With a house full of kids and critters, you never feel caught up. There are dirty dishes and dusty tiles. Laundry, a floor that needs vacuumed, pillows that need fluffed.

I hope that what it’s lacking in finesse, we’re compensating with love. Warmth, snuggles, hugs. A home-cooked meal shared with laughs even if it leaves the kitchen messy.

Fun times mixed with hard work outside in the barn that straggles in with dirty boots. Random pieces of popcorn dropped during a movie night. School work proudly displayed on my refrigerator with alphabet magnets.

None of this will get me a spread in Better Homes and Gardens. But I hope it’s cultivating a safe place for them to land. I want our home to be a place of comfort they eagerly return to. In our house, we live and love. I’m fine with it looking that way.

Kids Remember Love, Not Perfection

When I was younger, I am sure my mother yelled or lost it from time to time though I can’t really remember that specifically. Instead, I remember playing Super Nintendo together, sitting criss-cross applesauce on my bedroom floor. I remember watching her walk out the door, feeling sad that she had to go to work. I remember taking warm baths, filled with lots of bubbles. I still love a warm bath today. I remember back scratches and “Now I lay me down to sleep” prayers. Dear anyone who will ever come over to my house someday,  I know Chip & Joanna have set the bar very high when it comes to home decor and the way a house should look now. However, if you were to visit mine, this is not the kind of magical farmhouse wonderland you would walk into. No, ma’am. You’d be walking into a different kind of magical wonderland. Love Grows Best in Little Houses Like Ours

In: Living, Motherhood
Family seen through window

Have you ever heard the saying, “Love grows best in little houses”? I’ve seen it and heard it more than ever lately. It is almost like the saying has been following me and acting as a reminder. You see, I’ve lived in my current home for seven and a half years. My husband and I purchased it when we were engaged and just out of college. I remember feeling proud—proud that at only 22 years old, I bought a house. I remember feeling excited—excited for the memories my husband, our dog, and I would make. RELATED: My House Will Never...
