Nowadays, marriage doesn’t seem so serious to some. You hear so often of people getting married and divorced in such a short amount of time, without even an ounce of a fight to keep their vows. It is such a breath of fresh air when we see stories of couples who have been through the same ups and downs that every marriage encounters and make it.
Ferris and Margaret Romaire were married in 1946. Although their wedding day was so special, they never got the professional pictures that are usually part of a wedding. For their 70th wedding Anniversary, their granddaughter, Amanda wanted to change that. She hired a photographer to capture her grandparents never ending love.
“I’ve done lots of family portraits and a few weddings but never a 70th wedding anniversary,” photographer Lara Carter told Scary Mommy. “Such a rare opportunity that I am so grateful to have been able to do!”
The handsome groom wore a tux and his beautiful bride wore a lavender gown and veil. The couple live a simple life. They still have the same home they built 65 years ago for their four children. They have eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. This photo shoot meant the world to them.
The photographer even shared some much sought after advice that the couple shared for making a marriage last. Ferris said the key to a long marriage is ‘giving each other space and respecting one another’ and also ‘admitting when you are wrong, except that Margaret is never wrong!’”
“If you ask Margaret she would say, ‘saying you’re sorry, except that Ferris has a hard time doing that!’” Carter told The Huffington Post. “If a problem came up they solved it. It was more important to compromise and move on than to be right. Two was always better than one!”
So much amazing advice that any newly or long married couple can take. Ferris and Margaret, you are both adorable and such an inspiration for those in love. We wish you many more years proving that two is always better than one!”
