The Sweetest Mother's Day Gift!

There were times in my life where it felt like fiction.

The idea that prayer would help me find God and His path for my life.

Because, in those seasons, life was hard and heavy to hold.

And, to be honest, God felt distant.

Had He forgotten about me?

Had He changed His mind about me?

So, naturally, prayer felt impossible and too vulnerable for my heart.

I questioned my worth. I questioned my purpose.

Because, if I was enough, why would God allow the mass shooting at my university, the miscarriage of my first child, and my father’s stage 4 lung cancer diagnosis?

I carried this uncertainty and these unanswered questions for years.

Until, one day, I had nowhere else to turn but to God.

So, I started prayingin my bedroom closet in the early hours of morning before my kids would demand all of my time and energy.

God, I love You.
God, I need to feel You.
God, I give You my life.

And, prayer by prayer, God filled me with His light and love. I found my faith again.
I found my footing again. And, truly, for the very first time: I found my Father’s plan for my life.

Now, six years later, I look back and I see there is power in prayer.

It is how we overcome overwhelm.

It is how we see our self-worth

It is how we find our faith-filled future.

So, today, do not delay in talking with God.

He longs to hear your voice.

He is ready to make you whole.

You are fully known and fully loved by God.

When the world takes a step back from you, God takes a step closer.

When the world makes you feel unworthy, God whispers, you are valued.

And when the world rejects who you are, God keeps the light shining in you.

Because the One who made the world is not of it. He took the time to design every single part of you. And He knows you fully.

So keep growing in Him. No matter what.

Keep trusting in Him. No matter what.

And keep your faith in His mighty way. No matter what.

The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness” (Jeremiah 31:3).

Dear God,
I pray for the woman who is fighting negative voices. Lord, she has tried to ignore them, but they threaten her peace. Remind her, Father, that no matter what strength or progress these voices try to steal, Your love can heal.
In Your Holy Name, Amen.

God Hears Our Wordless Prayers

In: Faith, Grief
Woman sitting by sea

I am the daughter of a pastor. I grew up considering our church a second home. My siblings and I were ushered into the church doors just about every time they were open and even when they weren’t. I attended all the camps and conventions. I went to youth group and Sunday School. I graduated from a Christian university where I majored in Christian ministries. I married a pastor. And I don’t know how to pray. I used to, but then my mom died. Oh, how I prayed for her to win her battle with cancer. I prayed with an...

If God is Truly Good, He is Still Good When Life is Not

In: Faith
woman with bible www.herviewfromhome.com

In the cool of the morning, while the sun still worked its way into the sky above, I sat on my deck overlooking the grassy back lawn, just taking it all in. I put on my favorite worship music, and sipped on my favorite coffee—oh how I love a nice hot cup of dark roast to start my day. I could hear my little girl giggling and singing—music to my ears. I observed as she ran about, and my heart was filled with joy for all the good God had provided. “Father, you are good,” I quietly proclaimed. But, the...

I’m Too Exhausted To Pray

In: Faith, Motherhood
Tired mom with toddler

I can’t remember the last time I prayed. I feel incredibly guilty saying that. But, it has become my reality lately. It’s not something I’m proud of and, surprisingly, my lack of praying isn’t due to a faith crisis. I’m not struggling with doctrine, scripture, philosophy, or my church.  I’m simply exhausted. I have a constantly sick toddler who is also in the midst of potty training (seriously, I should be praying, ya feel me?) and a newborn, I haven’t been to church in what feels like months. My faith is still strong, I know who my Father in Heaven...
