Every summer as a kid, my sister Lindsay and I would spend hours in the good old Blue Hill swimming pool. For a mid-day treat, we would meander across the road to the Bobcat’s Den for this.
A twist cone with “crunch” things on top. PHE. NOM. EN. AL.
That means VERY TASTY in case you were wondering.
Unfortunately, the Bobcat’s Den has been closed for quite some time. That’s why any time I find a place that looks and feels like the Bobcat’s Den, I’m hooked. If it serves a twist ice cream cone with peanuts and sprinkles on top – even better!
Back in May when my sisters’ and mom took our flower tour, we stopped at a lovely little cafe/flower shop in Shelton. The name for said cafe?
The Chubby Monkey.
Um, yes!! Everything about this place reminded me of being a kid. The chicken strip baskets, the vinyl tablecloths, the old red ketchup bottles, heck – even the prices. Had there been a wall full of VHS tapes and Nintendo games (like Paper Boy!) to rent, I may have mistaken the year for 1993.
I loved it.
Better yet? They had CRUNCH CONES!! I made Linds take a picture with me. I had to!! It’s like we are kids all over again! OK. Maybe not quite the same.
If you have never tried a small town cafe crunch cone, I do believe you are missing out. Seriously. Like, it should be on your bucket list. It will make you believe all is right with the world!
If you want to know what all the fuss is about, check out the Chubby Monkey on Facebook! I also found a story about them in the Kearney Hub!
So please tell me you’ve had one of these before. If so, where?! I want to go on a crunch cone search before the summer is over!
P.S. The Bobcat’s Den didn’t actually have Bobcats ~ er, in a den. The Bobcat is the towns mascot. Just thought I should clarify. 😉
