You probably have never heard of Oolong tea. I never had before reading Trim Healthy Mama but after learning about some of the health benefits, I ordered some. Among many other benefits, Oolong tea has loads of antioxidants, lowers blood sugar levels (great for diabetics!), is good for your skin, AND your body burns 67 calories just by drinking a cup.
So I had Oolong tea in my cupboard. But it just sat there. I forgot about it… didn’t have time to do anything with it… didn’t know WHAT to do with it. Then I saw this recipe on Pinterest for Oolong lemonade. It sounded SO good and refreshing. I love drinking coffee but now that the weather is becoming warmer, hot coffee isn’t as satisfying. A glass of sweet, tangy iced tea sounded perfect.
The ingredient list is incredibly simple. For 2 quarts of Oolong Tea Lemonade, you will need:
2 quarts of water
3 Oolong tea bags
3 lemons
1-2 Tablespoons of Truvia
Truvia is a natural sweetener made from the stevia plant. It is available at Walmart and other grocery stores.
Bring 1 quart of water to a boil. Remove from heat and add tea bags. Let the tea brew for at least 15 minutes, but you can let it brew as long as you want. I left mine for about an hour.
While the tea is brewing, juice your lemons. Watch out for the seeds! I had to fish out more than one with a spoon.
Once the tea is brewed, mix with 1 quart cold water in a pitcher. Add lemon juice and Truvia and stir. Do a taste test and add more Truvia if needed.
Chill and serve! I like making a big batch to keep in my refrigerator. The tea does have caffeine (not as much as coffee) which makes for a nice pick-me-up in the mornings but may not be so nice if you drink it after supper!
