When I look in the mirror, sometimes I see a jaded version of myself. But sometimes I see me for who I am.
Fearfully and wonderfully made. A masterpiece.
Living life, sometimes we get jaded.
When we look in the mirror, we see the wrinkles from the stress.
We see the weight from the babies, or from hormones, or simply just because.
We see the bags under our eyes from the fatigue of life.
We see the messy hair from the rushed mornings.
We see the empty eyes, holding the truth of our souls. The truth of all the worry and the pain we sometimes carry.
But when God sees you, He sees something completely different.
He sees the wrinkles as all the times He was able to give you peace in your storm. He sees beauty from the moments of pain and comforting.
He doesn’t see your “weight gain”. Instead He sees the gain of strength created inside your soul from forming a new, deep love . . . whether that means experiencing deep love and resilience during infertility and hormones, loving babies in Heaven, or loving babies on Earth.
He looks at your skin and sees every freckle on your face, every birthmark on your body, every “imperfection” carefully and purposefully placed as a stamp of love and individuality.
He sees YOU in all the tired moments, all the times you lost your patience, felt unmotivated because of fatigue. He understands and He’s been here waiting to build you back up in grace.
He looks at your hair, the way He lovingly added every curl, every frizz, every wave. Or maybe He made it beautifully straight, and wishes you wouldn’t try to change it.
He sees your beautiful eyes, the ones He miraculously formed in the womb, with different specks of color. To carry your soul, to bring color and to see beauty in the world.
He sees YOU. He sees ALL of you. He sees every mood, every version of yourself, and in every circumstance. His love never waivers. He’s always here waiting . . . waiting to love you, waiting to build you up and give you grace. He doesn’t want a “better version” covered in makeup, or hair straighteners, curlers, or Frizz-Ease. He wants to show you the way He sees you already. The way He sees you when you wake up in the morning. As a masterpiece.
