When I was a little girl, my mom told me to pray for my future husband. I knew what I wanted in a man, so I prayed God would send the right husband my way when I was ready.
My dating journey was not an easy one. Eventually, I decided if I wanted to get married and start a family, I needed to just settle. I was discouraged and frustrated, to say the least.
But then, after four years of being single, God brought the perfect man into my life at the most unexpected time and I finally understand the struggle. I now appreciate every obstacle I faced and every challenge I had to overcome because there was a purpose behind it all.
God was preparing me to be the woman I needed to be today, to be ready for the future husband I’d prayed about for so long.
Here’s how I know:
1. He respects and honors me.
This one speaks for itself. The right man will give you the utmost respect and treats those around him with respect as well.
Show proper respect to everyone, love the family of believers, fear God, honor the emperor. -1 Peter 2:17
2. He is honest.
A man of God is a man of truth. Trust and honesty will flow when you are with the man God chose for you.
The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in people who are trustworthy. -Proverbs 12:22
3. He practices what he preaches.
He leads by example and follows through. His actions match his words.
Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. -1 John 3:18
4. He doesn’t pull me away from God.
Your relationship will bring you closer to God instead of distracting you from God.
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. -Matthew 6:33
5. He brings out the best in me.
You will want to be a better woman and a better person. He doesn’t change you, your character, your morals, or your values.
Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.” -1 Corinthians 15:33
6. He is forgiving.
We all make mistakes. The right man will not hold a grudge or judge you for your mistakes; he will humble himself forgive you.
Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. -Colossians 3:13
The man God has chosen for you will love you unconditionally. He will bring you peace and joy. He will show you patience, kindness, and what a true gentleman looks like. He will be incredibly loyal and faithful and you will never have a doubt about who he is or his love for you.
