Last week, John Krasinski won our hearts with “Some Good News”—his delightfully homemade, hope-filled newscast filled with, you guessed it, good news. It proved to be just the feel-good dose of humor and heart our weary world needed . . . and this week, he’s outdone himself.
Krasinski posted episode 2 to YouTube on Sunday, and it’s the best 16 minutes and 51 seconds you’re going to spend today, guaranteed—mostly thanks to an appearance by 9-year-old Aubrey.
Aubrey’s mom recently tweeted about her daughter’s disappointment that her birthday present—a trip to see Hamilton on Broadway—was thwarted by quarantine. “Instead we’re home watching Mary Poppins Returns,” her mom wrote.
Krasinki, of course, is married to modern-day Mary Poppins Emily Blunt, and the two called Aubrey on Zoom to chat. The conversation eventually turned to Hamilton mastermind Lin Manuel Miranda (who plays Jack the lamplighter in Mary Poppins Returns).
Suddenly, Miranda’s face popped onto the Zoom call (“Zoom-bombed,” as Krasinki noted), much to Aubrey’s delight.
What happened next is pure internet magic.
Members of the original Hamilton cast joined the call and performed the show’s opening number “Alexander Hamilton” in brilliant, joyful fashion.
Watch here for yourself (the Hamilton segment is about 8 minutes in):
Well done, grown-ups. Well done.
We can’t wait for episode 3!
