When I was a little girl, I spent an insane amount of time curled up on my parents’ couch watching Disney movies on VHS. Nevermind that my brother never remembered to rewind the tapes, or that my favorite scenes were all scratched from me watching them over and over . . . those classic films were EVERYTHING to kid-me.
Imagine my disappointment when I became a parent and discovered I couldn’t share this special part of my childhood with my own littles, because most of my favorite movies were locked away in the ominous “Disney Vault”. I made a habit of snagging the movies as they took turns appearing on store shelves for a short time, but to date my collection is still sorely lacking.
In fact, for the last several years, the only place in my world where I knew to find the entire cumulation of classics was a dusty box of VHS tapes in my mom’s basement.
But you guys. The world as we know it is about to change.
Disney just made all of this sentimental mama’s dreams come true when they announced their upcoming streaming service called Disney+ will house every Disney movie ever made.
EVERY. SINGLE. ONE.
Let that sink in. New and old, nearly 100 years worth of beloved films will finally be in one place, and just a click away from our own living rooms!
Wanna get your Hakuna Matata on? Go ahead! Go on a magic carpet ride with Aladdin? Sure! Dance the night away with Cinderella and sing along with Snow White? DO IT.
Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed that the streaming service will “house the entire Disney motion picture library, so the movies that you speak of that traditionally have been kept in a ‘vault’ and brought out basically every few years will be on the service.”
In addition to the titles we already know and love, Disney+ will be home to several new original movies and shows, such as a live-action Star Wars series called, “The Mandalorian”.
An exact date for the launch Disney+ has not yet been announced, and there’s no word on what the subscription fee will be, but the service is set to arrive before the end of 2019. For now, Disney lovers can sign up for updates on the Disney+ website.
I don’t know about you, but it looks like screen-time limits in this house will be going out the window as we ramp up for some seriously amazing movie marathons! If you need me anytime after the Disney+, I’ll be sandwiched between my kiddos on the couch reliving the magic of my childhood with my favorite pint-sized humans.
