So God Made a Teacher Collection (Sale!) ➔

When I was a little girl, I spent an insane amount of time curled up on my parents’ couch watching Disney movies on VHS. Nevermind that my brother never remembered to rewind the tapes, or that my favorite scenes were all scratched from me watching them over and over . . . those classic films were EVERYTHING to kid-me.

Imagine my disappointment when I became a parent and discovered I couldn’t share this special part of my childhood with my own littles, because most of my favorite movies were locked away in the ominous “Disney Vault”. I made a habit of snagging the movies as they took turns appearing on store shelves for a short time, but to date my collection is still sorely lacking.

In fact, for the last several years, the only place in my world where I knew to find the entire cumulation of classics was a dusty box of VHS tapes in my mom’s basement.

But you guys. The world as we know it is about to change.

Disney just made all of this sentimental mama’s dreams come true when they announced their upcoming streaming service called Disney+ will house every Disney movie ever made.

EVERY. SINGLE. ONE.

Let that sink in. New and old, nearly 100 years worth of beloved films will finally be in one place, and just a click away from our own living rooms!

Wanna get your Hakuna Matata on? Go ahead! Go on a magic carpet ride with Aladdin? Sure! Dance the night away with Cinderella and sing along with Snow White? DO IT.

Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed that the streaming service will “house the entire Disney motion picture library, so the movies that you speak of that traditionally have been kept in a ‘vault’ and brought out basically every few years will be on the service.”

In addition to the titles we already know and love, Disney+ will be home to several new original movies and shows, such as a live-action Star Wars series called, “The Mandalorian”.

An exact date for the launch Disney+ has not yet been announced, and there’s no word on what the subscription fee will be, but the service is set to arrive before the end of 2019. For now, Disney lovers can sign up for updates on the Disney+ website.

I don’t know about you, but it looks like screen-time limits in this house will be going out the window as we ramp up for some seriously amazing movie marathons! If you need me anytime after the Disney+, I’ll be sandwiched between my kiddos on the couch reliving the magic of my childhood with my favorite pint-sized humans.

“Tell me about it . . . stud.” I’ll never forget the iconic ending scene of “Grease” when the camera pans from the shocked face of John Travolta as bad-boy Danny Zuko to his high school sweetheart, Sandy, who has literally transformed from an innocent transfer student into a leather-clad cool chick, complete with massive perm and sky-high heels. In the starring role of one of the most successful movie musicals ever made, beauty icon Olivia Newton-John stole America’s heart and never looked back over the course of an awe-inspiring five-decade career, which included both movies and musical hits like...

Woman with long red hair, wearing a hat, color photo

The news came out last month that Amy Schumer, an American comedian and actress, suffers from trichotillomania (also known as TTM). If you aren’t familiar with what that is, it means she pulls her hair out—literally. Schumer announced she would be talking about her struggle with trichotillomania, which she also refers to as her “big secret” in her new show. Let me first address the elephant in the room, in case you haven’t already guessed it. I, too, suffer from trichotillomania. My personal struggle manifests not in my hair, but in my eyelashes. There, I said it. It’s been my...

16-Year-Old Saved From Kidnapper By Flashing TikTok Hand Signal For Help

In: Living, News

With all the dangers for our kids on social media, it’s pretty darn refreshing to hear of the good that can come from it. I don’t know about you, but these days I often need a reminder that many things (and people) are a mixed bag! It helps me not to throw the proverbial baby out with the bathwater. So when I heard earlier this week that TikTok helped save a life, I was genuinely intrigued—and thrilled. A harrowing scene unfolded in Kentucky last week when a 16-year-old girl, desperate to escape the 61-year-old man holding her captive, began flashing...

“Dear Kobe”: Vanessa Bryant’s Speech at Her Late Husband’s Hall of Fame Enshrinement Was the Definition of Love

In: Grief, News

If I can be honest, I’m not an avid NBA fan.  But along with the rest of the world, I was rocked by the loss of Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna—lovingly known as Gigi—and seven other victims in a tragic helicopter crash in January of 2020.  In the months since the accident I’ve followed Kobe’s widow, Vanessa Bryant, on Instagram and have been in absolute awe of her strength, grace, and dedication to honoring the legacies of both Kobe and Gigi. As a fellow wife and mama, my heart has broken for her over and over. The magnitude of her...

Queen Elizabeth’s Husband Prince Philip, the Love of Her Life, Dies at 99

In: Living, News

“It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.” When I read these words in a Facebook message from my cousin this morning, I called out “Oh no!” aloud, even though I sat in an empty house with no one to hear me. As an avid royal watcher since I was a teen, I had been expecting this announcement, but it still hit hard. After all, Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh and husband to Queen Elizabeth II for a full 73...

Sad woman sitting by window

They didn’t show it to me in the movies. What I saw on the big screen up until then was, “Here’s how happy parents look when they have their babies,” not “Here’s how you grieve when you find out you’re carrying life in your womb before you suddenly find out that life couldn’t survive inside of you.” I didn’t know anyone who had a miscarriage at the time. I didn’t understand how common it was. So after making my boss aware of my mid-day doctor’s appointment after which I assumed I’d come back with a shinier, pregnant-mom glow—I instead found...

NCAA Weight Room Disparities Show What Female Athletes Have Always Known: It’s Not Equal

In the fall of 2000, I wrote a college term paper on Title IX emphasizing how the civil rights law is supposed to make sports equal for girls and women. As a freshman soccer player at the time, I had a lot to learn, but in regards to sports equality, had already experienced a lot . . . only I hadn’t yet realized the great disparities and misogyny. If you haven’t seen it, Sedona Prince, a forward from the Oregon Ducks women’s basketball team posted a viral TikTok video showing the immense disparities between the women’s weight room and that...

To the Mom Who Helped Sarah Fuller Make Football History: I See You

Sarah Fuller Twitter photo

Dear Windi Fuller, mother of Sarah Fuller: After seeing your daughter, Sarah Fuller, make history as the kicker for the Vanderbilt football team this weekend, I started doing a little research on her. As one mother to another, I can only imagine how incredibly proud you must be. I’m sure this weekend was a proud moment, but I’m not sure people know the success that Sarah has already achieved in her fairly short life. Leading Vandy’s Women’s Soccer Team to an SEC Tournament Title. Graduating with her undergrad and now working on her master’s degree. The philanthropic work that she...
